Einstein didn't believe in a personal god. He just uses the word god as an abstract idea of why things are like they are. I don't think he's much use quoting as defence of religion, even if he arguably did believe in some kind of god figure (organised religion and god are not synonyms). Most would call him an agnostic by today's definition.
