nearly everyone ive ever told in my life that i play for a living has been as ******ed as you'd expect.

except for my current gf of 2+ years. she pretty much never asks about it, and i love her all the more because of that.

I was chatting with one guy about poker and other non-poker player guy joins us. Some quotes what he said:

He: i see some poker nerds
He: do something real
He: change the world
He: poker is for nerds
He: so i guess ur a gambler
He: they call poker sports nowadays?
He: i think its luck

Standard questions like others mentioned "How was poker", "How much you got" pisses of as well. But what annoys me the most is home games with my friends. Anything that you read on any poker book, article etc. doesn't count there: for example I hold AJ heads up against my friend. Board goes K 7 J I check, friend bets, I call. Turn's rag, I check, my friend bets again, I call. Rag on the river as well, and a huge bet by my friend, I fold. He shows 87o. And no, he didn't try to bluff me out, he plays every hand like that and you never know, you play against a set or against 9 high.
Isn't the river an easy call here given your read?

"No!" My friend and I yell out. "Bet it. Bet it big."

"Okay." Then he raises his size from 5c to 10c

Every couple of minutes my friend and I would crack up laughing at how bad he was, but we'd keep it quiet so we didn't look like douches to him. Then he gets QQ in the cut-off and min raises. BB calls. Flop is QTT.

"FLUSH!! I'm all-in!" he says.

So at that point, I just thought, "F*** it". I spent the rest of his session telling him that T5o is the best hand as it can make all the straights and 2 flushes, and that the reason he is running so well is because he has just deposited, and the site wants him to play more.
So you're laughing at your friend losing money?

Another reason why you don't tell people you play poker, because there's a good chance you sound like a moron. Here's some random poster from the Dallas Cowboys's website today (talking about trying to sign OJ Atogwe to some big contract):

kkrouton,

If I had the money, absolutely!!!

But let's put things into perspective. JJ is a billionaire. That's $1,000,000,000.

And the money he would pay OJ and Sensy doesn't come out of his pocket, it comes from Dallas Cowboy revenue; i.e. ticket sales, jerseys sales, beer, stadium tours, merchandise licensing, etc, etc. Plus a few extra playoff games would make it easier to pay both of them.

Not to mention NFC East, NFC Champions, and Super Bowl Champs licensing. So even if JJ spends a combined $10 million this year on both of them, 1 playoff game at Jerry World might cover it. 2 Definitely would. Are going to buy a SB Champs sweatshirt if they win it? I am.

And just remember, JJ bought The Cowboys when they were at one of their worst lows. He's a gambler by nature. And signing OJ & Sensy isn't really a gamble, is it?

Pot odds, my friend. Spend $7-10 million with a chance to cash in on $50+ million? There's only one thing to say to those odds;

ALL IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ugh.

Went travelling for a year in Thailand and Cambodia, while i was there got an unbelievable amount of charges for withdrawls and so on... told my bank it was crazy how much i'd been charged! They said come in we will sort something out, got there a week later for my appointment with some lady i had not seen before! so she is there looking through a years worth of statements and asks,

Her ..What are all these deposits from williamhill?"

Me..I play poker there, that's how i financed the trip!

her face changes, and she looks at me in disgust, she lean's over the desk so no one hears her and says ...... That's like drug dealing!!! sorry there is nothing we can do.

I never bring up the fact I play poker unless I'm talking to fellow poker players. After explaining the whole 'poker is not gambling' thing around 30 times in one week I just got sick of it. Which IMO is a shame, I love talking poker and its a shame some people naivety about it.

Im done dealing with civilians (ppl that dont play/ understand poker) b/c i go on super uber monkey tilt when i get questions like

1. Soo when am I gonna see you on tv?

2. How much did you win? After I tell them they ask the standard BUT HOW MUCH DID YOU LOSE?

3. Can I borrow 80k to invest in a barbershop? (After I made $3,679 one Saturday afternoon on his laptop while waiting my turn to get a haircut

I love this one b/c my "OLD" barber is a recreational player/ functional alcoholic and always wants to tell me about his hands he plays at his bar league. Keeps wanting me to come down and play with him so i can see him in action
I pass on this one all the time b/c i try and explain to him about the value of REAL MONEY play vs PLAY MONEY play and how the decision making process differs and the level of serious thought increases with REAL MONIES etc... but he never gets it all the while sitting in his chair and leaving the fate of my head in his shaky hands

Don't get me wrong i'm not against playing for fun but some ppl need to get a clue!

seriously this. i would have probably cost that person her job. I would not have left until she showed me the law in text where being a poker pro is anything similar to dealing drugs.

Other forms of betting like if you talk to someone about how the betting on horse racing went and they said they won £1000 on a 25/1, the phrase "but how much did you loose" is fine, although not greatly worded.

I dont think it's that unreasonable to be aware that not everyone knows the rules of poker or how its possible to win ect

Some of my colleagues found out that I crush heads-up recently and all the girls in the office want me to coach them.

I'm unsure as to whether they are genuine or just enjoy spending time with the big 'wood in the office after hours.

It's not a good idea to let others know in my opinion, especially if you crush as I do.

Devin, listen here son. I'm the classiest heads-up player on the iPoker network and the next big name to emerge on the world poker scene so show the big 'wood some respect.

I'm an Australian no-limit champion and I will be more famous than all the big names in 12 months time.

You want to throw douche lines at me? Go ahead son but be able to back them up, I'll stack you solid and walk away with your woman to boot.

It's not the big 'woods fault that he happens to be extremely attractive as well as a dominant poker force and an all-around great guy. It's not easy son.

If you want some tips I do coaching for AU$150/hour...inbox me or feel free to rail me on the iPoker network, you might learn a thing or two, son.
