Story: I was at work talking with a buddy of mine about some hands I played on PS when this random guy comes up to me asking if I play B&M or online. I tell him a little of both. He proceeds to tell me that he worked his bankroll up to 50K but over the last two weeks it has dropped to 25-30K. I tell him that the swings like that would make me throw up and that I'm slowly working my $100 deposit up. thats when he says...

... I could never deposit real money online, I would lose it all.

MMO game hacks rely on client-side information. Poker sites, for obvious reasons, don't send everyone's hole cards to the client, it's server-based.

I like this conversation. My friend (drunk) told someone I play poker online. She said "that is cool how do you do?"
I respond "I try to make more than rent each month."
Then this girl said "Thats cool I play online too. I play on Yahoo. Do you make real money where you play?"
In my head (No bitch I pay rent with monopoly money) what I actually said "No I just make Skalansky bucks." I knew she would not understand and drop the subject if I said that.

Girl: Oh you play poker? We have a poker party every week. Everyone just buys in for £1 and the winner gets all the money. We should invite you over the next time.

I was playing at this lol home game once just to hang out with my friends from back home and we played like $20 NL. It was so lol it was incredible. Someone shipped all in preflop and I called with A9 and cracked his AA.

Him: "You should really work on your game. You could lose a lot of money like that"

Sometime around christmas my mom calls me and tells me she really wants me to go to her Rotary club's xmas party this year. Sure, that's fine, she's probably getting some award or something, so I make plans to head home for that weekend, but it's still a bit vague why it's so important for me to go.

The whole night everyone in her rotary club is anxious to meet me, so I have about 20 of the "what do you do?" conversations. At this point in my career, I don't mind saying, I say "professional poker" as confidently as possible and usually get decent responses, but on this night the responses are a lot more awkward than usual - more of those fake-nod, but obviously disapproving/bewildered looks. I figure its just because its middle-aged+ people and those are the people that tend to be less understanding. Plus, my mom's a successful business woman, former first-woman-president of her rotary club, so they're probably all thinking "Ohhh, I wonder what respectable industry her son works in."

Come to the end of the night and I find out I'M the one getting the award, some kind of community service award. I get more details later that night and it turns out some amount of money was collectively donated to charity in my name - most of it by my mom, but I think other people in the club matched chunks of it to help out. So the whole night when I was having those awkward conversations, the people were probably thinking "why did I donate money in your name?"

I'm telling my mom the next day about those disapproving looks everyone gave me and she asks me who in particular did that. I told her this guy Bubba was the biggest offender of it. About 5 days later, Bubba calls my mom and asks if I'd be willing to coach him.

The main one I get is "what if the person doesnt pay you the money they owe you?"

Also a few months ago I met an old friend for lunch and he wanted to talk about poker.
We were talking about hourly rates and he told me "yeah ok, so you make that much an hour, but you could
lose at any time"
