Told housemates I'd won $3000. They're all students working for £6 an hour, I tell them when I lose and had been on a bad run.
Comments I instantly got:

"Get a real job"
"How is it hard work you just sit there clicking buttons, I heard you listening to linkin park earlier ffs". I then explain how i lose so often and the mental stresses it brings and they dont understand.

But the one that tilts me the most: "Dirty money". Whenever I say I've won money, a couple people always say "yeah but it's not real money, it's dirty money. It's almost like stealing."

Tilts me so much

I've learned to completely stop telling people I play poker, and I don't bring it up unless someone directly asks, so I don't have too much trouble with it. But it pisses me off whenever I'm hanging out with friends and someone brings up poker so my friends have to say "Sdone plays poker all the time, he's addicted to it!" Basically the common belief that if someone participates in poker regularly they have a disorder pisses me off.

My friend who is bad @ poker:

Him: "Look, I'm a poker player too. Luck is a big part of the game, like at least 50%."
Me: (Something along the lines of) "...No"
Him: "Sometimes you don't get the cards you need Ksight3"

Didn't bother with it...I hate getting arguments about these things.
I don't see a reason to disprove people that think dis way o.O

lol 50+%...If the game is more than 50% luck how could ne1 make a consistent living at it...lol -_-

Agreed, when friends bring it up as a convo starter with people you've never met before that are their friends. It insta puts you in a bad light, and obv no one wants to talk about poker outside of poker anyway so it's just awkward when they're like "so do you like just use real money?" and ruins any chance you had with the hot bimbo as they think you're a degen nerd (which you are but they don't need to know this.)

It could be 99.99% luck and you could still make a living at it.... I agree with your friend, it's easily 50% luck in the short term and probably more luck based in the long term than most of us want to admit

When people ask me what the most I ever lost was I always say I've never lost more than $150. Because it's true, I've been "up" ever since that!

If you were an architect, and you loved being and architect and it made you a lot of money, and you spent a decent amount of time (30-50 hr/wk) working on projects blueprints, logistics, and so forth, who in this world would accuse you of being an architecture addict except as a joke? This is what kills me.

I agree, but accept this.

Part of the money comes from degen gamblers ruining their lives, borrowing money to gamble and lose it to us, selling their houses, stealing from their family, just so we can make money. It's true, it's just that poker players don't care. (Or are too ignorant to realize it)

from that link above:

"To answer your question, yes some win at online poker, but over the long haul, you DON'T. Why cause you are dealing with a RNG (Random Number Generator) that is a software program that is used on all online poker sites."

makes perfect sense right.....?

oh wait...

I don't get this. I don't think I've ever met a girl under 40 that doesn't think its cool for a guy to be a professional poker player, unless they're ridiculously uptight or something. I mean, didn't we all learn this in high school: nice guys finish last, chicks dig the bad guys. Same concept here, poker is edgy and they like it imo. At least in my experience.

By far the funniest and best thread on 2p2, ty OP.

Most annoying question IMO (from someone who plays and thinks he/she is good)

Don't you wanna be the first person with the option to bet, so you can be the aggressor?

Answer: Let's play heads up and I get the button every hand.

Ye this link is actually super nice.

When I started playing online I even thought some stuff might be rigged cos I knew **** about the game. I even think there were serious posts on 2+2 about online poker being rigged.

Not strictly poker, but I was going all in blind $5 a hand with somebody at school and I went on a bad run, then some people started watching and kept asking me why I was so bad at the game, being totally serious.
