Why is this question always asked? Do degenerates who win once in a while say they won 2k or something without mentioning their losses? This seems like the mentality...

A new friend from my college classes and with who I hang out with sometimes, seems to think that online poker is a scam, that there is not a way to take money actually out.

I have tried to explain him many times, that for example, PokerStars, is like virtual-online bank account, where i keep my money to play, and can actually take it out when-ever-the-fruck-i-pleeeeeeze.

A month ago we had a birthday party, a lot of new people from my college, some friends who I had known a couple of months. All older than me, like 2-4 years.
Anyway, when my friend introduce me to others, they just can't shut their mouths and HAVE TO tell that I play poker online, and that I play for real money.

None of them really understands whats poker about, and think I am degen.
A negative image to me, yeaaaah.

My parents, uhh... My mother basically understands that poker is not gambling, but also keeps asking "But how much did you lose?", which is so sick that I would like to eat the kitchen knife at that moment, goooooood.........

My father, I have tried to explain it to him a couple of times, but it always ends like this, he will not listen or doesn't understand what I am trying to say, and just gets mad at me, because he thinks it's pure luck and I will soon be playing for our house, lmao.

When I state the most obvious point, like in "the rounders" movie... That how could the same people be winning at poker over 10+ years. Are they the luckiest people in the world?
Ignorantly he answers "YES!", trying to stop the convo and make it obvious that I am a gambler who doesn't care for money. At that point when he answers "YES" to my quiestion if they are the luckiest people in the world, I would really like to throw something at him for his ignorance and stupidity.
Oh, and when he says yes, they are, I just state "Well, **** that, looks like I am one of the luckiest people in the world also, then, as I have successfully played live poker over 1.5 years and a bit online poker for a couple of months, read number of poker related books, always analyzing my play with better players, and always trying to improve...

Anyway, how the hell could I explain something like poker to a ignorant person like my father, who just starts yelling at me every time I bring up the subject?
Once in a while my mother asks hows it going at poker, I said I have won X amount since she last asked, my father overhears it and says "will it ever stop, in 2 years you will be out on the streets"....

LIKE WTF IS THE MATTER WITH HIM?

happens at work all the time.

i have tried to explain in so many ways how i win at pokers but they just DONT BELIEVE ME. they think you CANNOT WIN POKERS.. THE HOUSE ALWAYS WINS. they say one day ill find out its all luck

they say "but once i had pocket aces and lost to pocket 5s. its just luck"

i get into a heated argument and am really close to punching them all out but id get fired

also i work in an actuarial firm where everyone is supposed to be really smart and good at maths

once i sat in the school mensa and some of my friends discusses about their jobs..
im a curier and earn 5€/h .. i work at a supermarket and earn 7€/h later on they talked about their monthly income: i earn 75€, me 125€, ....
After a while they asked me and i said s.th. like: uhhm ye I earn money in the internet.

Obv i didnt told them what i earn, because they wont understand this and on the other hand you have to play alot on nl200 to make a 5k+ month.. and I'm not sure but i earn like 40bucks/h so thats much but it sounds even more if you say 5k/month

This happened a few weeks ago, I study psychology, and got an assignment for orginazational behavior in my class (basically you have college, and twice a week 2 hours in a class doing some stupid excersizes).

In the class we went to describe our jobs. some of them worked as a waitress or in a supermarket or whatever for the most crappy salaries imaginable. anyways, my turn.

girl: so what do you do for a living?
Me: Uhm, I pretty much quit my weekly job as a mail deliverer becouse it didn't earn me enough, so bassically I only play poker now to earn some extra
Girl, not looking in the least suprised: Oooow, so you're a gambling addict, aah
Me: huh no uhm, no really!

Me: Yeah abit, haven't really had much time to play though lately due to examns, so hardly played since februari (this was first week of april). But made uhm, $6k in 2008 so far.

Here's a simple way to handle the "how much did you lose" question. When asked how much you've won say $10,000,000 + what you've really won. When they ask "how much did you lose", you say "$10,000,000".
