But please, tell me about this "baller lifestyle" you lead playing 10NL

Good to know your girlfriend would **** someone else though.

For anyone who skipped this because it's a wall of text, this is actually pretty spot-on.

Most people change their tune about poker being a job when they can see you consitently rubbing all the money you make on your tittayyys

Great thread. Reminds me of my comedy days when I would tell people I was an actor/comedian, and people would immediately say, "Hey man, tell me a joke!" like I was a Domino's Pizza of jokes. What am I? A clown to amuse you?

When people hear I play poker, I immediately get:

- people telling me their bad beat stories (like I care)

- this annoying guy at my job telling me about his hands in a penny poker game and a charity free poker tournament in a synagogue (srsly)

- people I work with having to run to me to tell me all of the cliffs of whatever story they read on poker

- their thoughts on poker on television (eyeroll)

- how gambling is bad

- "Did you go to Foxwoods at all this weekend?"

- how they would love to play "but dont have a poker face"

I almost don't want to say anything anymore, it's gotten to the point of annoyance because they feel as if when I tell them, they have to get into their life story on poker like its some fascinating tale.

I also don't get people who try to prod into others' lives. People are just so noisy.

My mate's know I love poker but can't understand how I can play every night online (6m 100bb cash games) but then don't clean up and win every game when we have a £5 per game 6m sng at our poker nights....starting with 40 chips each.... blinds starting at 1/2 and doubling everytime someone goes out lol

The inevitable lolyour**** comments when I open shove Axs in the CO with like 6bb and lose a flip never get tiring at all lol

'- how they would love to play "but dont have a poker face"'

The worst is when you tell them having a quote, poker face, unquote, isn't the end all and be all of poker skills most nonpoker players believe it to be, and then they tell you how wrong you are.

Trust me, it is the worst.

I hate humans in general. Most are stupid, and constantly are trying to passively justify their own life choices. Listen to
people communicate closely and you will hear them constantly trying to remind themselves why they are right.

I lived in Hawaii for 7 years. Hands down the most frequent reply they have when they asked me where I was from was "Oh, I could never live in Hawaii. Don't you get island fever?"

No, and STFU and go home to Bakersfield you dddddousche.

At some point you (and not specifically you, but most of the people in this thread) will realize that you're spending entirely too much time caring about what others think of you.

Nope it is the most important aspect of poker

So, a friend of mine just came in 2nd place in the WPT. I'm railbirding watching him play and there are several fish talking about the money and one of the fish next to me says, "You know what he needs to do with the money he wins..."

I roll my eyes and sigh, since I can feel more "poker wisdom" about to eminate from the fish (they had been talking poker for the last hour)...

After a moment he says, "He should take all of the money he wins and never play poker again. Its like the lottery, you aren't going to win again so you might as well take your money and run..."

THe other fish quickly agree and finally I snap and say, "If you are a winning player, then you make more money from poker than you spend. I know the guy and he is a winning tournament player so it makes no sense for him to stop playing poker. As long as he follows bankroll management he'll be fine."

The fish say, "No, its impossible to beat the house."

I pull out my phone and show them my graph over the last year and say, "This is all the poker I've played over the year and you can see that i'm a winning player..."

The fish says, "Man, you made that much money over the year."

I reply, "Yep"

Fish says, "Man, if I were you I'd quit while I was ahead and stop playing before you give it all back."

For my reply, I literally did this...

Of course you're right but you're so wrong to argue with that fish and even more wrong to show him your graph...

Yeah this exactly. I've been in IT for 20 years. If I hear two morons talk about something completely ridiculous about something computer related, the absolute last thing I'm going to do is try to talk to them, much less correct them or try to show them why they are wrong. This is just begging for further stupidity. I understand the 20 something nature of wanting to show off and feel important, but trust me, they'll be so much better off just ignoring it.

It's usually along the lines of:

"What do you do for a living?"
(reluctantly) "I play poker."
"Oh. You must have a really good poker face!"

I never ever do this at the poker table and normally I just let the stupid comments slide... But after an hour of watching the tourney in the lobby and listening to the fish drone on and on about how poker is luck I just snapped.

I guess it all comes down to whether it's +EV to say anything. It's not the same as trying to educate the fish at the table, where it's obviously costing you money...in this case there's a chance you'll plant the seed in the mind of someone who otherwise doesn't play, and get them to believe they might have what it takes to make $$$ doing it. Since most likely (based on their generally being morons) they'd rise no higher than the level of moderately losing grinder, it's good for the poker economy to try to convert them.
