Nice one Heave! Stupid **** happens like that all the time. My Dad is different hes a fish and doesnt mind losing money at poker. However, from going to tournaments with me in the past he knows Im profitable. I usually give my dad his buyin back and a little extra which is -EV!

They support me a lot and think I should go pro lol but I know I couldn't do it!

The reason I don't say **** about poker is basically summed up in the last 3 pages of this thread. I think every post made me feel like a poker genius. Seriously question if any of them are winning players.

Heave--

I have to admit, if I played online for the very first time and had quads cracked within the first hour, I'd probably be 100% convinced it was rigged too.

Or if you watched 60 minutes on the UB scandal or Fox News on the Full Tilt Lawsuit or if you read 2plus2 forums regarding superusers, bots, sweating, or software viruses....

Me: 15/11/5
Friend: 37/10/10

My ''Friend'' walks in the room and sees me multi-tabling 50nl full ring.

Me: ''Sup man''.

Friend: ''Why would you play so many table at once? It's like playing Bingo''.

Me: ''No it's not''.

Few hours later my ''Friend'' deposits $50 and plays $7, 6max Hyper Turbos.

You can't tell randoms you play poker, they will instantly think you are a degenerate. It would be like saying you're a crack head to them.

I used to talk openly about poker. Then I realised that anyone who openly talks about how good they are at poker to strangers is a tard and usually a fish.

If im out with friends on the way to the casino and the taxi driver starts one of his "I could have been the best" stories, Then I just pretend I dont know anything about it and let him humor himself.

my best was a taxi driver who apparently lived in vegas for a few years and got rich. And now he is telling me he had made it 80th place in a $3 donkament. He was so happy. I couldnt take that away from him. So I just smile and say well done.

I dont tell cause people would not understand. In tv or news poker is presented like a hazard, game of luck, they show human wrecks, people that lost their job, living, everything (mothaf-ckas that cant control themselves). The brainwashing is on, they say poker is the same as roulette, lottery or a scratch ticket, and other ssss.
When they find out that you do what you do, they just want to blow your head off, youre just a ffff gambler arent you

Yeah, yeah, but actually they are right. Everybody tries to win money in poker, but 80-90% will lose long term, and let's say 5% (I have know idea how many really) will lose all their money and their life. Obviously poker needs them to keep the game alive, but non poker players only see that the vast majority is losing. People say Isildur1 is one of the best players in the world, the non poker player can ask, "then how the hell could he lose 6 million in a few weeks? Because he was unlucky and gambled." Or durrrr against Isildur1 for example.
They will never understand you can be in that 10%. Two people asked me today what is my job, and my answer was "I'm working on the Internet." Fortunately neither of them asked for details. I can't say I'm a pro, but my only income was from poker in the last few months. I could have made more with a regular job, so I'm not a pro I guess.

among the reasons cited for my ex-girlfriend leaving me was poker. she did not care that I was a winning player because: "gambling is gross and low-class"

finally met her new boyfriend this weekend, got to talking to him and apparently he lost the 10k his parents gave him for graduating college in three months short selling on the stock market. He works for a real estate flipper.

you only tell people you play poker for a living when you make enough to be able to brag about it. nobody says **** if you go "i make millions playing poker", but how many people can say that? that's why i dont tell people i play poker YET.

Im not a major winner, nor do I play for a living, but my friends know I'm very interested in it and some of the curveballs they throw at you when trying to talk poker is pretty entertaining

I made day 2 of a tournament, mentioned it to a friend and he asked "so whats the big hand?"

"wut?"

They also grind some cash every now and again, dont understand why you cant take money off the table straight away when you win etc. The turn is the 'second hand' and the river 'the third hand'. But before you ask, the flop isnt the first hand, thats still a flop

"Its frustrating always getting hands like K3, flopping 2 pair and having to fold cause other people are always betting"

"lolwut?"

Plus all the usual degen stuff, "you've got the bug now!" or "the heaters over!" whenever you have a loss
That's not silly at all... I mean over a day long session there is always 1 hand that is memorable... no !? Oh no you're a super pro who can grind his way through an above average stack on day 2 without ever committing more than 10% of his stack sorry.

This. People are so stupid...was talking on the phone with a girl I was gonna meet up with (I HAVE game, still working on it, but I BLEW it by mentioning poker) and everything was going great until she said "so, you just sit at a computer all day?" "How do you win, isn't there a risk of you losing all your money"?
"My Dad is/was a gambling addict..." blah blah blah

I seriously doubt we're gonna hang out now.

I don't give a ****. Dating is just a numbers game. I ain't gonna stop grinding.

You bum around or make some bull**** "I'm an investor" sort of statement?
