Friends thinking they are the ishh if they can beat you at the weekly $5 donkfest. Its actually pretty annoying... I dont feel that I need to prove myself to them when I 10table triple the buyin with a 10% on stars. I just wanna relax and get blazed & drunk and play fishy for $5 before we step out to the bars....They dont understand this and i will hear...

"Playing poker is easy... I own xxxx in our homegame and he plays all day...hes not as good as he thinks he is etc..."

I guess it shouldn't bother me... but my pride gets the irk ...but surprisingly not enough to take the $5 game seriously so its weekly encouragement and ego-boosting for my peers ....

my friends seem to understand what goes on in poker and understand when i explain to them. you must all hang round teh spastics (except my dad who is ******)

I like the people who try to raise when blinds are like 250-500 in a home game and they raise to 550 and it's completely acceptable to the rest of the players

LMAO, a buddy of mine was playing in a home game with his brother and other poker idiots. Low stakes, terrible play, more drinking than poker, the usual.

Blinds were 10-20. Buddy raises to 100 PF and gets called by his brother who is on the verge of being drunk. Flop is rags and buddy bets 225. His brother raises to 400. Buddy goes "you mean 400 more?" Brother: "Nope, 400 total". Buddy begins to explain the minimum raise is to 450. Brother gets pissed and rants about how he can raise to what he wants, blah blah.

Buddy figures if his brother's friends concur with him (buddy) his brother will back down. Buddy asks the table if the minimum raise is double the original bet. Table gives him deer in the headlights looks and they begin to say "Um, I think so" and my favorite "It depends on where you're playing". Brother ends up throwing his extra 50 in. Buddy immediately goes all-in and brother angrily flings his cards into the muck.

About 10 minutes later with blinds still at 10-20, another player raises PF to 60 total. Buddy's brother goes "Nope! That's an illegal raise according to him (buddy)!" Buddy asks his brother what the hell he's talking about. Brother says "You said the minimum raise was double the bet. Well he didn't raise enough. He has to raise 40." Yup, brother thought the minimum raise was double the original bet on top of the original bet itself.

Buddy starts laughing and tries to explain it again. Brother starts yelling he wants his extra 50 back from "that one hand".

Buddy should have raised to 401 to make his point.

Am I missing something here?

Here's my favourite homegame story...

Me and my buddy are heads up; I have ~9000 chips and buddy has ~1000 in chips, blinds are 50/100. I get dealt AQ, then say "i'm all in" and my friend snapcalls with AK. We deal the board, his AK holds up, and he says "It feels so good to win one of these against you", at which point I was like wtf are you talking about, I have 8000 chips left. He starts laughing and says, "It doesnt matter, you declared all-in, that means everything you have goes into the pot". Trying not to embarrass him in front of everyone, I explain that we aren't playing that way and then he said "I'm explaing official rules to you, goddamn it, how do you play on the internet without even knowing proper rules". I just let it be, but later on that day when we went to the liquor store, I 'forgot' my wallet at home. lol Donkaments.

I've got a home game story for you, we play £20 each and just play with chips like a stt anyway we have been playing for an hour or so and i've had a few beers and running over the table showing bluffs left right and center

I look at my cards i have 9 10 of d it gets raised i call flop 9 9 9 i look at my cards again yeh it's there floped quads, it gets checked round to the raiser he over bets the pot so i min raise him he then min raises back so i know he's got a high pp i say i'm all in he snap calls shows aa i turn over my 9 and say well played, he then says 'what do you mean?' i said 'i've got you covered' he says 'no you haven't' my bottle of bud was infront of my black chips (worth 5000 each) my mate says 'he as look' and pull them from the back he then starts saying 'oh you cheated' and 'you did it on purpose there is no way i would call all my chips with that!' i'm like wtf

So i say listen the money we are playing for i play (£100) i play pots online 10x that why the fook would i want to cheat?

So in the end i just said pay what was showing and i took him out 5 hands later

Last night I went out for some drinks with some friends and got drunk as usual and I start getting a million questions about how can I afford to go out with them when I never seem to be working, it's annoying as hell to try and explain so I just tell people that I am between jobs and was lucky enough to have some savings from my last job

what do you we do about parents?

My mom understands, thinks its scary, but trusts me and thinks i know what I'm doing, my dad doesnt really care and thinks it's like roulette (sounds strange, but it's true). Friends always seem to understand to some level.

If asked how much i make i usually avoid it, but if i tell them i tell them hourly rate's and stuff like that.

I get this and I only play .10/.25 once a twice a week for a few hours.

i dont even like to play cards with my friends anymore. I play so much now(in between classes etc.) that having a "card game with the guys" is just lame for me. They play 50 cent 1 dollar blinds and then all buy in short for like 40 or 50 bucks. I always get the call from them.

"hey man you should have been here last night a dude walked away with 400 dollars!"
"o yeah that's awesome good for him(as i rake in an 800 dollar pot online). you playing tonight?"
"yeah probably man i won 50 bucks so i am going to play as long as they want to"
"alright well i am going to the bar give me a call when you are done."

i would love to hang out with them but the game buys in short, they play 12 hands an hour full ring(pot smokers take forever ldo) and if i dont win money in the three hours we play i get ridiculed.



and now my favorite thing is i have a friend that always contacts me on aim about how he quit poker because it was "ruining his life"

this is the type of guy that puts 300 dollars on a site and then buys in short to 600nl and will move up as soon as he doubles. he'll keep doing it til he is broke. then he will borrow 2k from somebody and try and sit at 10-20 to recoup losses.

This is not a problem for me personally because it is his money, but when he asks me if i still play and i say yes he just goes, "i quit that game bro, it's so bad for you. you cant win. i also quit smoking and drinking too."

which basically means "i am better than you because i said so."

obviously this guy isnt really a friend anymore, but he used to be.

I know where your coming from speel but those kinds of people are good reminders of what can happen if you are undisciplined or addicted to the game.

What kind of people do some of you guys know? I've never had anyone call me a compulsive gambler, I've never had anyone expect me to give them free money, I've never had anyone tell me I'm going to lose it all.

I also don't find it annoying when people ask me obvious questions about my work, I bet I do the same to them sometimes too (I am speficically thinking of a conversation I had with a six foot tall girl when I was very, very drunk talking about how she was tall). People asking you how much you're up that week is just them being friendly.
