You will have to give her some presents and stuff like that. Like buy her some jewel for $1k or something, or take her out to diner in the most fancy restourant in town. Make sure she knows you pay for it with your pokerwinnings, and she will definatly not wine again. She will probadly brag to all her friends about "yeah my BF bought me this, he makes tons of money every day! Just last week he made like $10k blablabla" This will also give you implied threesome odds
This is the truth. A few months ago some guy wanted to hit my girlfriend, he said "i bet i have a more interesting job then your boyfriend" (yes he actually said that, must have been a big ******) then she replied i was playing poker professionaly. He gave up after that.

lol,
since James Bond played poker everyone is asking about which tells players usually have. they think reading tells = pokerskill, and playing the cards, throwing random amount of chips = luck.

i hate how the end of the james bond movie's tournament has to end on some rediculously unavoidable cold deck. nicely done, mr bond, way to have a royal flush against that sucker's quads and the other sucker's fullhouse. must be nice. and when the hell did 007 get the chip lead?

I wonder how many people who posted at the beginning of this thread still don't talk about how they play poker for a living?

straigth flush > nut boat > smaller boat > nut flush

It was so funny that in that movie they say multiple times about how poker is not about luck at all but a skill game blablabla, and then you see the most insane beats all over the entire movie, for example:

AA>KK on AKxxx board
JJ<AK on AKKJJ board (BUT BOND ONLY STACKED OFF THERE BECOUSE HE KNEW THE VILLAIN WAS BLUFFING! lol)

valid point.

The part I couldnt wrap my head around was that he didn't mind losing 1K because it was always only risking 50. He enjoys playing poker and had no intention of depositing more anytime soon. He had recently gotten married and bought a house so money was somewhat tight. 1k would have been an adequate br to play small stakes and never have to deposit again. I can certainly understand depositing 50 and playing some 25nl or 50nl as long as you understand there is a good chance of going bust. The other part eludes me...

One incident sticks in my mind - I was playing bridge at a local club with a friend who also plays poker for a living, and we got involved in a conversation with some old lady there. It went like this:

Old lady: (Addressing my friend) So what are you doing for a job?
Friend: Actually I just play poker for money
Old lady: Hmph. Poker is all luck.
Me: Actually, there's quite a bit of skill in...
Old lady: No there isn't. It's all luck.

Given that the only possible response to this was "HU4ROLLZ?", we just shut our mouths and exchanged grins. The thing that got me wasn't the opinion, but the hostility. A similar conversation would be:

A: What do you do for a living?
B: Well, I've become a qualified Shiatsu massage practitioner, and...
A: Oh, Shiatsu is useless. It doesn't do anything.
B: Well actually, studies show....
A: No they don't. It's all quack bull****.

I'm pretty sure this lady would have recognised this line of conversation as uncool, but she had no problems informing us that a favourite activity of ours was all crap. I don't get it. Is it because everyone thinks they're an expert on gambling?

"OK then lets play a few matches where I give you 2-1 odds. Since poker is all luck we are basically flipping coins here, and you would have to be a complete idiot with absolutely no understanding of math to turn me down. We can play as many as you want. Shall we start at 10K a match?"

Sounds like a -ev proposition. Better just give her 1.0000000001-1 odds, and she would still be making a mistake, according to her, in turning you down.

A long while back I told someone I play poker to make money right now, and this person looked me dead in the eye and asked me when I was gonna be on TV. I had to stop myself from laughing in their face.

Most of the time though I just get random ?s that u would expect from someone who doesnt know much bout the pokas.

Wouldn't this be +EV for her if she just went all-in every hand, depending on the blind structure?

If you think its -EV then yes it is probably -EV for you

Heh....

I have an odd perspective on it. I've been playing forever, for a living at one point but now I stick to games I can crush and stay away from tournaments outside of ARG events. I found a career I like better than poker and am a born again low-roller.

When people hear that I play I often wind up talking to someone who plays limits way higher than I do (right now I'm trying to run the odd $.44 left over in one of my accounts into a grand just for the heck of it... ) that have no theoretical grasp of what they are doing, spew chips, and simply put it, lose. I find the superior posture they take when they find out I mostly play 3/6 live amusing, considering they couldn't beat a 3/6 game either.

On the other hand, those innocent of poker hear about the vast sums won and lost on a turn of a card in a 5/10 or 3/6 limit game and are appalled at my recklessness...

Beating 3/6 limit live is nearly impossible because of the rake or so I have heard

I've played a bit of live 3/6 and watched a guy 3b the turn while folding his own hand. "One time only! I'm buying some future luck!" He then did the same the very next hand. He was probably the strongest opposition at the table. Obviously unbeatable.

i dont play professionally but just 25NL and a few tourneys. My friends sat me down when I said my 250$ MTT win left me with 600$ bankroll to beg me to take out 300£, money I don't need. When I refused they said I had a gambling problem. I still get asked what I'm doing on the internet at night.

Also one night at the casino where about 10 of us were playing in a 30 man tourney I got chatting about online poker to one of the random guys. Afterwards I overheard my mate saying to my other housemates "It's really scary I think he might be becoming a degenerate gambler"
