Need a line check:

So last night, I went out to a restaurant with a group of friends - 14 of us in total. We meet up roughly once a week for drinks / food.

For the last 2-3 weeks, we have been going to the same place because it's one of the few places that has big enough tables for our group, the food and wine is good, the service too and most importantly it is quiet (it's an English conversation evening and since most of the group are French, it's not easy for them if there's too much noise IYSWIM)

I am the organizer of these nights out and so I deal with sorting out who will definitely be coming and then booking the table with the restaurant manager.

So anyway, last night, I get there at 7:30pm and say hello to the manager and just as I go to join the group, he calls me back and says "Oh by the way, tonight we'll be having some live music and so there'll be a 2 euros surcharge per person to cover the costs"

Note that when I had booked the table a week ago, he never mentioned this. Nor did he mention it when I called him on Monday to add a couple of people to the group and he didn't mention when he called yesterday afternoon to ask if I had any preferences for seating arrangements etc. So basically he tells me this once we had all arrived.

Bit more info, the live music surcharge is mentioned on the website and menu, but live music is only on Wednesdays and Thursdays. I chose Tuesdays on purpose because we do NOT want music and we certainly don't want to pay for something we do not want.

So to cut a long story short, I told him to GTFO with his 2 Euros / person surcharge and sat down with my group. Then 10 minutes later, he calls me over to the bar and tries to negotiate with me to ask the group to agree to 1 Euros / person. His explanation was that "yeah music is usually Wednesdays and Thursdays, but my boss suddenly decided to do music one Tuesday per month starting tonight" So again, I told him to GTFO and that basically it was their problem.

So we didn't pay the surcharge, and predictably we got ****ty service all night and the musician was really really bad and really really loud. Needless to say, we won't be going back.

I think as a restaurant manager, his behaviour = EPIC FAIL because for the last 3 weeks, I have brought a group of 14 to his restaurant on a non-busy Tuesday night and he's the one being a dick trying to get me to pay for something that wasn't discussed in advance.

Yeah, I've dealt with him several times. I wouldn't have any problem asking my group to pay the surcharge if we had known about it beforehand and everyone was cool with it.

Yeah, we just ordered wine once we realized they were all butthurt.

The musician was so bad, that by the end of the night, we were all willing to pay 2 euros for him to stop singing.

The first couple episodes seem a little slowish but yeah its def good. Lots and lots of tits and vag shots too
