gf and I are invited to my gf's friends' house for dinner tonight.(whom I never met before)

I just called my gf to suggest we take a bottle of wine with us to give to them (standard over here when invited for dinner at someone's house). Awkward silence on phone followed by gf saying we should take flowers, not alcohol because they don't drink. Like WTF is that all about ?

Do you reckon there will be booze there even if the hosts don't drink? Friday night is booze o'clock - I'm not gonna sip orange juice all night FFS. My gf hardly drinks anyway so she couldn't care either way IMO. Taking booze obv guarantees I get to drink some, but I don't like the idea of taking booze that only I'm going to be drinking and any leftovers will no doubt be poured down the sink when we leave.
