I would have my friends play off my bankroll in online tournaments, we eventually hit some nice scores. I took them on vacation to FL and gave them each 1k. Teaching them poker = stupid, since they overlook how much work goes into becoming good. But yeah, your friends should never expect you to be picking up the tab etc. Yet, kind acts of generosity every now and then will never hurt.

just dont talk about big scores, how much money your making etc etc. I did this once or twice then I realised what a dick i was. Since then I try to only talk results with a couple of close poker playing friends who are prob more successful than me anyway.

i had a [censored] roommate who had a rent check bounce (my parents owned the house so i took care of the money)so I told him to pay me within a week or I would take all of his belongings into the backyard and set them all on fire. Then my other roommate showed him the molotov cocktail we would use to start said fire.

variance: we had one of those rain ducts behind our house so you could start random humorous fires.

basically, I wouldn't feel bad about fellow students but when they are realy good friends i think it's standard.
(keep a low profile on the money issue untill you know them better and even after that it's generally a good idea)

QFT. Pay for things on occasion when you're with people whose company you enjoy enough that you'd rather pay for their share too than have them skip out b/c of money. On the other hand when people are grubbing about money don't make a big deal out of a buck or two if they know you're "rich" - if your friends leave a skimpy tip when you're splitting a tip go ahead and make up for it, but don't get in a habit of doing more than that on a regular basis.

I was in college right when the poker boom started and I was probably one of the first 5 guys on campus to even play online poker. I actually quit school I was making so much playing and I fronted a lot of tabs. I think there's nothing wrong with that as long as your only helping out good friends. Truth be told, the guys will get degree's and be wealthy some day (most of them) so you will get it back with interest in the long run if they are still your friends.
