I was thinking of an around the world trip (9-12 months) and here's the general gist of what I was going to do:

South America
- Patagonia
- Machu Pichu
- Rio

Africa
- South Africa
- Namibia
- Botswana
- Mozambique
- Tanzania
- Kenya
- Egypt

Europe
- London
- Northern Italy
- Rome
- Romania

Asia
- China
- Thailand

America
- California
- New York

This is basically in order, although some of it is rough. Not sure how long I'd spend in each place, but assume a week or two in most places and somewhat extended stays in a few. I've traveled a ton so my itinerary was trying to get back to some favorites, but mostly to see things I haven't seen already.

Let me know if you want more info about any of these places. Hope this is helpful.

lol, no. wasn't sure if you'd noticed the dates of these posts. this is a super old thread that somebody bumped for no apparent reason and doesn't really hold much relevance at all.

I'm surprised not many people have mentioned Paris. It might be expensive but it's quite possibly the most beautiful city in the world. And this is coming from an Englishman and we're supposed to hate the Frogs!

Definitely agree with ADZ, it would be a sin to not visit Hong Kong if you're making your way over to that side of the world.

The other place I would definitely include is Dubai. I'm moving there in the New Year and I can't wait. Aside from the US, definitely the coolest place I've ever been to. As long as you look past the building site that it currently is, it's a wicked cool place to visit.

i did beijing, hongkong, thailand, singapore, australia, newzealand, fiji and L.A. add Europe (amsterdam ldo) and i think it would be a pretty spot on trip

how long are you gonna travel?

with only a few months, i think egypt and surrounding countries would be really cool.

so would some stops around se asia. (laos, cambodia, vietnam) or perhaps (thailand, malaysia, singapore). or just pick one of those countries and live there for a few months.

i'd say it really depends on what you're trying to do. a eurotrip would be [censored] cool but would obviously be a completely different experience than traveling somewhere where speaking english is at least a bit of a struggle.

good luck. i say go for asia but it's up to you of course.

Those places in Africa would be my first choice, I was there a few years ago and would go back in a second. There is nothing like the Serengetti (bad speller).

As for Europe (e.g. Paris) on my list: I've already spent a lot of time in Europe and wanted this trip to take me to places I had not been/spent much time. I agree there are many other awesome places to go than the ones on my list. Mine focused on Africa, because I wanted to spend time there and didn't think I'd have much opportunity to go other than on a trip like this. Other places (read: Europe) I will go to for work/shorter vacations.
