First time I ever played 1/2 at a casino was 2004. I Didn't know what a bankroll was and was terrified putting $200 on the table. I remember praying that I wouldn't get anything remotely playable for the hour or so that I planned to sit and could just fold. The very first hand I see was AK. I called an EP open for $10, whiffed the flop then folded. The very next hand I saw was AA. My heart was thumping! Again there was an EP raise that was called before it got to me and I made what seemed like a huge 3 bet at the time to $50 because I didn't want action.

Funny, I only recently learned in the last 6 months playing lots of live 1/2 that this sizing, although on the bigger side is pretty standard. Oh man was I happy to not see a flop that day tho.

It makes me smile thinking back to that time. It makes me aware and on the lookout for that young 19 year olds first trip to the poker room. It's an experince that just sticks with you.

I have a running joke with other regs that we should dump a few chips to the 19 year old newbie as an investment for the future!

Not a bad idea. I don't see too many really young guys in the games I play.

Not poker related, but I always thought the absolute worst thing that can happen to a kid when they turn 18/19, whatever is legal where they live, is go to a casino and win money in whatever game they play.

Horrible.
