She wrote a book and it's quite good, especially if you're interested in home games.

Survivor Sally Part 3

I am heading down I-75 thinking of the interesting bars that we could go and stop at and have a drink. I think of a good one south of town where I know it is a relaxed atmosphere. I can tell Sally is in a good mood, and I am not entirely sure what other types of moods she is in.

We get there and I order a Bud Light for her and a Godfather for me. This is my third one, but my only drink in 3 hours. I'm trying to stretch it out so I basically have nothing in my system when I hit the road. What was really going through my mind was what she had on hers. Was she just excited from the money? Was she just a little buzzed and happy? A group of people down the bar were really the only energy in this bar, but it still was relaxing from the ringing and voices from Hard Rock. One of them orders a round of shots, and all I can hear is "DEM TITTIES!!!" being yelled by the entire group. I broke out laughing, and it turned out that was the name of the shot they were taking. What I wasn't expecting was one of the girls to pull up her shirt to reveal "dem titties". All I could think of was the Bar Rescue episode where the girl was giving $5 boob shows, and started to laugh harder. We ended up finishing our drinks, heading out of the bar, and were 20 minutes from the meetup point.

"What was that 'Dem titties' thing about?" Sally asked.

"Well, from my experience, if you show dem titties in a bar, you tend to get free drinks."

"So you mean all I have to do is show titties and you dont have to pay?"

"Well, I'm sure if I showed them my man titties I would have to still pay for my drink. It wouldn't be just any titties."

"Well how about these?" She asks as she lifts up her tanktop with ease.

I turn over while I am driving to basically see titties in my face. They were a C, possibly a D cup, and were definitely above average for a mid-40 something woman. They were probably nicer than the ones the girl in the bar showed off for the shots.

"Yes those would definitely get free shots. I will give those 2 thumbs up."

My heart started pounding as multiple outcomes for this night came to mind. I had about 15 minutes to think about this rationally before possibly making a terrible mistake. Sally had been married for over 20 years, had 2 kids, was my exes' mother, and a very settled life. I knew her marriage was at this time one of convenience, but her husband was very committed to her, and he also was very keen on owning a ton of guns and carrying them wherever he went. He was also very nice and friendly with me, and he was not that way with many people. We were also parked at a hotel, it was 130, and we didn't exactly have curfews.

As I was making small talk to figure out what exactly was going on, Sally started crying. I asked her what was wrong and she was getting very emotional about her life, her marriage, her granddaughter, and even poker. It was then that my decision was made for me. Sally was someone I needed as a friend, whether it was poker, bowling, Disney, and anything other than that was just going to ruin this friendship that we had.

"We have been friends for years, I will be willing to help you out through anything. I think you know that. You should be happy tonight - you won almost 2000 dollars, we had a fun time, and I gave your titties two thumbs up!"

She started laughing, and we were talking about going to play at Vito's for New Years' which I didn't realize was actually later that night. Was I really going to have to deal New Years'? I didn't want to think about that right now. After another hour of talking, she was on her way home around 3am. As she was pulling out of the parking lot, I rolled down my window and said, "remember, two thumbs up!" and gestured. She turned a little red, smiled, and drove off.

I headed to Waffle House to get my usual heart attack special of biscuits and gravy with extra gravy, and got a pecan waffle too. I came home and watched more EPT Live as I devoured the waffle, then it got a little slower with the biscuits and gravy. I don't seem to have an off switch when I am eating, so I ate both of them and could instantly feel the need to puke. I didn't want to wake anyone up, so I went outside and puked on the front lawn. Seeing as I was gaining weight and just throwing up wherever I wanted, I knew the wheels of caring had come off. I went back in the kitchen, made some Eggos, ate them and passed out.

No problem guys, sorry I am really trying to get these out. I have a lot of stories from this time, and I don't want to miss any good details. It definitely gets me posting more, knowing that the posts aren't going into the abyss. Because of my work schedule, I can usually get one out before noon, and 2 in the evening.

Re: The story of "The Home Game" - TL;DR

New Years

I get up to a phone call around noon on New Year's Eve from Vito. He has bad news. He has too many players that are in debt to him and he needs them to deal it off. Shocking. I tried to explain basic economics, that the games need a percentage of the money going through to be real money for the rake to be collected properly, and your debt to income ratios, and he just brushed it off. For a man who claimed to be a professional who owned his own business, I would think he would care more. That was the problem with Vito - he couldn't learn more. He was the #1 alpha male, he couldn't take constructive criticism from others, but loved to dish it all out. I really wanted to love the guy for his work ethic, his energy, but his customer service and bad attitude towards the game was killing me watching him destroy it. We parted our ways from a business standpoint, which was fine with me. The only thing we kept in the air is he could invite me to deal if he needed me. He invited me to come and play, which I accepted as I had to make sure he wasn't going to just take our players from Thursday night and run our game down.

Vito's house was a perfect place for a New Year's party - pool, lounge, game room, plenty of parking in a gated residence. Josh and Mike were dealing, and I showed up around 830 to almost 2 full tables. One table was clearly a 2/5 bordering on 5/10 the other was more of a kiddie table. I had come with Sally and she was okay with the big boy table, so I had no problem getting to know more of Vito's friends at the kiddie table. They could be some of our new players, plus some were already playing with us, and I hadn't gotten to know them. The table was not bad, but the chairs were terrible foldouts and I felt like I was in a Moose Lodge playing a ****ty $20 tournament. The only people I knew at this game were Bookie, Nazi John, and Drunk Mike.

My first notable hand of the night started on the BTN with AKss. Drunk Mike raises to 20 UTG, MP flats, and I make it 80 to go. I get both players to call with an A 9 3 rainbow flop, one spade. The nature of the buyins made awkward pot to stack ratios, especially when we were getting started. It gets checked to me, and I check behind for a little deception and to get value on later streets. Turn is 6s, Drunk Mike leads into me for 75, and as an aggro player, I think he may be drawing nearly dead in this situation as I call. The river is a 6, and Mike moves all in for 165. I am usually perceived as nitty in these games so I feel like he is trying to blow me off 1010-KK. I call and he shows QJss for a flush draw I wished had gotten there.

One problem with playing in a game that you run or deal, is it is very -EV to stack players, as they will often take in personally. Combine that with overrake, and you really have to work on getting players in to compensate for lost value. Big Mike was the king of donations, and this was his downfall as mentioned before.

An hour later, I get into a 3-way pot with 79hh where I am OOP against Pornstar and Bookie. The flop is a beautiful J77 and I check looking to get a bet out. I call a pot sized bet from Bookie of 45, as does Porn. The turn is a 5, and I check again as Bookie bets pot Porn folds, and I raise effectively for Bookie's 350 stack. He snap calls and tables 47. I tell Mike "keep it low" and he looks like he just sharted as he turns over a 4. What a dirty whore. Bookie gets his 3 outer and I am slightly down. I go out to smoke to burn off a little tilt.

As I walk outside, there is a blackjack game going on where Tampa John was banking, and a couple guys are getting their asses handed to him. This is really bad for the poker game but Vito doesn't say anything. I tell a Greek friend of mine to get out of the game, but he's not listening and goes down 1k in an hour. Vito really is the smart one here - he should be taking a cut from John, but John actually was doing him good. Bookie was running low on his trust fund, so he asked Tampa John to take half his book action, and John accepted. Having John around the game kept the sports betters in, so it wasn't as negative EV as it seemed, but now Greek is broke and has to play on credit. John was a 5/10 regular and I have seen him push edges and put players in really tough spots.

I suddenly hear my name called to come to the main table, but not to play, it was to be a floor of sorts.

with all the crappy poker books out there you could easily write a good poker book and it would be among the best.

but I don't think you know the meaning of irony. the one time you used it i think you intended to use the word coincidence. and how rare are male bullemics?

You are right, I did use irony improperly. The thesaurus in my head was not functioning when I was trying to find a synonym for coincidence, which is what I meant. I have been trying to get these posts out for you guys and I have made mistakes. I would be happy to write a book on poker, I just don't know if I am that qualified, except maybe some PLO/PLO8/O8 theory. I have written a book before on other topics, just never published them, and the one I want to I have not finished yet.

And I think the puking was the result of too much greasy food eaten way too fast, but unintentionally.

Wait... so, you threw up the waffle house food; and then, because you weren't quite disgusted with yourself enough you then went ahead and ate some Eggos?

Re: The story of "The Home Game" - TL;DR

Did I read a couple posts back that the rake on some hands was up to $75 per hand? Pls tell me I read that wrong. How in the world are players OK with that, even if they get free booze? Or perhaps they're OK with it cuz of the free booze....

OP said it's not bulimia, but to answer the Q that was asked, approx 1 out of every 4 people with bulimia is a male. Approx 1 out of every 3 people with "binge eating disorder" is a male. And approx 1 out of every 1 person who pukes up biscuts, gravy, and waffles, then doubles down on more waffles...I'm totally at a loss for something funny here, but I'm sure it would involve syrup. (This from the guy who just lost 2 BI at the casino and crushed a bag of Sun Chips in about 20 minutes, so what do I know?)

The Waffle House situation I couldn't really give you a straight answer because it never happened to me before. One problem I did have during the course of the game was I ate a ton and continued to gain weight from being sedentary.

As far as the rake is concerned Derek mentioned he was able to pull 75 in one hand. Mike and Derek had debts that they owed to people like Bookie and that was their bright idea of getting the money fast. They bet sports pretty big and they would take half of each other's action. I was going to write a chapter on the rake pretty much by itself - it was supposed to be 10 bucks capped, I'll try and get it out soon. I have to go out to an island and work with a client but I can post some more tonight about it.

Re: The story of "The Home Game" - TL;DR

New Year's Eve - Part 2

"Liam!" I hear from the other side of the room, and I turn around and everyone is staring at me from the big boy table, and play has completely stopped. I walk over and see a sea of green and red chips in the middle, Sally is all in against a guy named Dwight who was a floor at the cardroom, a pretty nice guy but from the amount of alcohol I have seen him drink, his liver has to be toast at the ripe age of 30. Sally is looking at me with fear in her eyes and I feel like something is seriously wrong. There's about 1700 in the pot and the flop and turn are on the board. "Can you explain to Sally what running it twice means? Just don't show your cards to Liam, because it can affect what he tells you."

I explained how there would be two river cards, with each river card complete with the board being worth half the pot. I also said that running it twice is used a lot in larger all-ins and is usually used by people who want to reduce variance in the short term in their game. She decides to run it twice, which is what Dwight asked her in the first place. On a AJ98 board, Sally held AK vs. Dwight's J9, and she lost both runs.

"You affected action," I hear as I am walking away. I turn around and see a regionally well known tournament pro from the South Florida area talking to me.

"How did I affect action? I explained CLEARLY what running it twice means, and the purpose for it in cash games." I turned around and said to him.

"What if she didn't want to run it twice? What if he only wanted to run it once?

"HE asked her if she wanted to run it twice. I had no idea what she had, and I don't see how much simpler it can be. Action offered and accepted. You asked for help, you got it. Am I right Mike?"

Mike nodded, and I noted to the tournament pro that maybe he should stick to tournaments if he didn't understand the logic behind reducing cash game variance. It was clear he wasn't going to understand, and I wasn't going to get through to him.

I go outside and see the fire put full with pallets, and Bookie is outside spraying something all over them. Vito is getting out a bunch of fireworks and we move outside for the fireshow. Bookie proceeds to light the fire with a cigarette, and it turns out the spray he was using PAM cooking spray. There was this flash and I thought Bookie was engulfed in flames but he came back intact. Fireworks continued to go off and a great time was had outside, I remember it being fairly cold for winter in Florida (@50F) but the fire was heating up the entire backyard.

After about 15 minutes, we go back inside, and the sounds of some girl moaning was coming from one of the bedrooms. One of Vito's roommates was banging one of the girls that some guy brought over to hang out. It got somewhat awkward after that, and Sally and I decide to call it a night.

"Hearing those two go at it at New Year's was kinda a turn on," Sally noted to me on the ride home.

Jesus Christ, she needed to go home and get some loving from her husband, and I needed to find myself a new female - it had been a month since the Colombian.

I'm currently struggling with the tilt-binge eating thing myself. 4 months of run-bad/BE play and zero poker income has me frazzled far more than I want to be, and I ain't coping off the felt particularly well. (Fortunately I am keeping it together on the felt.)

The rake chapter fascinates me, so whenever we get that one, I'm sure it will be a great as all the rest of the stories have been! You seriously should get a couple chapters to an agent. Prob not up Cardoza's alley, but who knows.

Good call on Sally. Friends are harder to get and keep than bedmates.

This is the 2nd best story ever told in BBV. You're 2nd only to WarmDeck, and that isn't meant to slight you. Thanks so much for sharing your story. I look forward to every update.

No offense taken, his story is epic and definitely has me trumped in degeneracy.

swemigre, I will try and get into the rake as best as I can, and try to make it the next chapter. I am trying to do everything chronologically, so I can put the rake chapter in on the fly.

I am always open to questions and will answer quickly if anyone was curious about things I have not talked about.

Re: The story of "The Home Game" - TL;DR

A Sinking Ship

The first Thursday of 2015 started out with the normal drive to German's. I had a friend from up north come into town, and he was excited about playing in the game - he was 3 hours from the nearest casino, and his home games were 25/50 cents. My job was to restock the beer, and I drove to the usual discount liquor store where they kept all the loose bottles for me, and I got them for $8 a case. This is one of the reasons how I got the name The Jew from the game. I took it as a compliment - compared to almost every poker player I knew, I was very frugal and efficient with my costs. I was known to spend money where it mattered, but if you drink Coors Light, let's face it, you're just looking to get wasted.

I get to German's and Mike instantly drives up in his Catera. I usually back in the driveway - I like to make sure that I can get out of there ASAP if I need to. Mike has me blocked in and the stench of the unburnt gas made me gag. The car was literally packed to the windows with garbage, toys, empty packs of cigarettes, pots, you name it, it had its place in that car. I help him bring the trays of food, which Mike was now having to bring as part of the cost because he owed German back rent. He starts to brag about how his wife went coupon crazy, and that the food was basically free because everything was off their foodstamp card.

"Nothing in life is free, someday you will understand that." I said with a sigh. Mike and his wife had an arrangement that allowed them to abuse the system, because it showed her living at a different address than him. They got over 1000 a month in cash, food assistance and other stuff. Although I understood him needing help now that he was unemployed, he had been doing this for years. I had never gotten help from the government except for student loans when I didn't go to the school my dad wanted me to. The way I saw it, the government was feeding his gambling debt, not his family.

We walk in and German asks, "What's for dinner tonight?"

"Obama Lasagna!" I exclaimed.

German immediately discusses how much Mike owed to him, and that he was having to take from the Superbowl pool to cover his living expenses. This was not a good conversation, and I had to apologize to my friend and just shrug my shoulders, but guaranteed the game would be good.

Sure enough, the table filled quickly with the help of a few new players I had gotten from the southside of town where I lived plus my friend, Bookie, Nazi John, and a Nice Shoes Ryan. About an hour into the game, Rockstar showed up to the game. Rockstar was someone I had seen a lot of at the cardroom, and he played exclusively tournaments. Seeing him play cash was sort of like seeing icing on a cake. He was a music purist, which I respected, but he brought a snarky attitude and would tank for minutes on fairly trivial decisions. I could tell he couldn't manage tilt well and would be an asset to other players.

As the game starts, everyone is buying in cash, and I am collecting to hand to Big Mike. This was a deal we had - I had my cut, he handled the money, and he kept the debts paid. Well he hadn't been doing that as of late. German was coming to me to talk about Mike, and I told him that was not my corner of the business. My job was to keep the game solvent, run as long as possible, and recruit players and deal. The last person to buy in was Rockstar, and he said "Gimme 500."

"The buyin is 100-300 until 10pm, then you can buy in for whatever you want."

"Mike said I could buy in for 500, what's the big deal?"

"We have rules - these are the rules to the game."

"Fine then, give me 300."

There was this awkward moment where I was waiting for the money to be handed over, and he looks at Mike for some sort of resolution.

"Rockstar's on me tonight."

This guy wanted to buy in above our early cap in credit, and is giving me a ****ty attitude about it. My friend Zac is looking at me like WTF is going on, and I assure him I will guarantee any payout tonight for him. Mike was compromising my friend being there with cash so he could be buddy buddy with Rockstar who thought his credit was good here. He had never played, showed any cash at this game, and he's asking me for 500 bucks in a 1/2. Mike is already in on credit, and I might as well divide that up amongst the table equally and save him the anguish of his own bad play. We are starting off too much in the negative, especially with German owed.

About 90 minutes later, I get out of the box and Mike comes to me in the kitchen and asks me to get a bottle of Jameson. I asked him who it was for and he said Rockstar. I didn't know if Mike knew how much this guy was playing him like a fiddle, or if he really was that stupid.

"Your buddy Zac is drinking our Hennessy VSOP, what's a $30 bottle?"

"The difference is Zac bought in with cash, and that bottle was mine personally, the game didn't buy it. Stop giving people free ****ing rides on your ass, or at least ask for some lube if you're going to go out this way."

I made him pay me out a flat $500 plus the bottle cost so I knew he wasn't going to try and weasel money off me at the end of the night. I took his car and I'm surprised the thing even made it 2 miles there and back. Just as I hope this is just a hump in the night, I get out of the car and can here about 6 people screaming. With the safety off my 5-7 I open the door and there's two huge guys who had put $400 each into German's Superbowl pool. They turn around immediately at stare at me and I have to make a quick decision.

"Who the **** are you?" They both ask.

"I'm the guy that's going to figure out what the **** is going on. You're disrupting our game. Let's step outside."

They immediately come outside and air their problems - they wanted their money back from German because they felt it was a scam. I assured them that this game and this night was the worst night to approach him about it, and that they should get him on Tuesday nights at the cardroom if he is up money. I'll even give them the jump if I am up there and see him with a stack of money. I even told them that we were upset with German for making this a problem at our game.

"Be careful walking into people houses like that, you're liable to get shot."

I never saw them again. I even looked took the time out to see what they were driving and look for that car at the cardroom and on the street before the next game.

The game ended with Mike down about 500, Rockstar down 300, and the rake at 1400. Mike basically made no money that night, and considering the heat that German was bringing into the house, he should have paid me. Because it started early, we decided to end it around 130. I let Mike float a few hundred with me that he said he would pay back once he got Rockstar's money, and walk out the winner of the night. He gave another IOU to German, but German didn't seem to put up a fight, which I thought odd. I got out of there with Zac, and we hightailed south. I went to a bar in town that didn't seem to care about the 230am closing laws, and sat down and got us a drink at the bar.

"One Godfather and one Heineken please, madam."

"Sure thing monsieur," the cute bar manager replied with a smile.

It was more than a smile though. When you play live poker enough, you get that feel for when someone is saying something they mean or they are just playing along in this fake game of interaction we call manners. I felt like I was being genuinely flirted with, and I was going to go for this one.

A mistake would be to sit at the bar and stare and talk to her all night until close - this would make her feel uncomfortable and she is probably used to guys getting up in her face. Instead we sat and talked about the game, Mike, the whole situation. As time passed by we had one more drink, and I wasn't even paying attention to the fact that we were suddenly alone in the bar.

Kendra, the bartender, came over and sat with us. She was 5'1, 105, around 25 and had that cute curviness about her that was very appealing to the eye. She asked us what we were up to the past night.

"Just playing poker, I run a game up north of here."

"Is it like Rounders, that movie with Matt Damon?"

"Sort of, but you won't catch a hanger at our game."

"I don't understand, what's a hanger?"

"Instead of me explaining to you, why don't you watch the movie again, and are you working Saturday night?"

"Nope," she said with a smile, the kind that was eager to know more.

"Come with me to the game, you can see it for yourself."

That to me was the biggest confidence booster for the night. A few hours before, I had gotten a text from Big John that a game was going down in Boca on Saturday night - the big game. I figured this would be a great opportunity not only to impress her, but to possibly buy out the game from Mike and send him on his way.

Kendra and the Big Game, Round Two

Getting the confidence to just ask a bartender out after just casually knowing her was the mixture of a few things. First I was angry about the current situation at German's. People kicking in the door and arguing about German's Superbowl deals was not acceptable. Big Mike dumping all his money at the table trying to beat an unbeatable game and not knowing why he was broke was irritating. A drink or two helps as well, and it just seemed to fall in place. Zac headed to the East Coast to play in a tournament at the Isle or at HR Hollywood, and I had been talking to Kendra Friday night late and she claimed she watched Rounders again on her tablet at work that night. I was trying my best not to come on strong, because my first instinct was to make a strong impression. I managed to play it cool until Saturday afternoon, when I told her to meet me at my house. I called Big John to confirm, and I was ready to go.

I met her outside on my porch, and she gave me a hug, the kind that screams pick me up off the ground. I did my best, and thankfully she was so tiny that it wasn't that hard. I was in a motorcycle accident in 2006, so my upper back and neck have basically kept me from being able to lift much, but I couldn't be a pussy so I just went with it.

She had a 2008ish Nissan Altima coupe with the 3.5, and it was decked out with a bright beachy theme including the steering wheel and seatbelt pads. I asked to check out her car and she showed me all the trinkets she kept in there, she really took pride in it. I really just wanted to take in the smell of the car as it smelled just like her, which was some kind of coconut/strawberry/orange with a hint of perfume. She had on some kind of designer loose fitting sleeveless blouse (I don't know what they are called) and low cut jeans. What a ****ing tease.

We got in my car, and this was the perfect time for some quality talk, as it was 45 minutes to the island. She noticed it was a manual and wanted to shift it while I pushed in the clutch.

"Oh, do you like manual cars?"

"I love them!"

"What was the last manual car you owned?"

"I've never owned one, I just like playing with the knob," she said with a smirk. Of course, I made a joke about how much power the car made when she shifted it, and she was an expert, getting all the gears on point.

We got on the main highway southbound, and I asked her about her life. She was actually 24, had grown up in the area, and worked in bars/restaurants her entire adult life. She had been in one serious relationship that was about 3 years, and apparently didn't get out much. Like a lot of people who were from the area, there weren't a lot of high paying jobs unless you headed north, and even then you really need a business degree to make a comfortable salary. She lived with her parents, which around here is relatively normal, and wanted to go to school for hospitality. She wasn't a fan of the bar scene in town, because it was mostly locals who didn't buy much and didn't tip well either. The bar is completely unmarked from the main road, it was basically a warehouse with a bar, pool tables, and a stage. I think it needed a Bar Rescue personally.

"So what intrigued you to come tonight?" I asked.

"Well, everyone else I know works the same jobs that are around here in town - car salesmen, waiters, pool maintenance, you know. I don't want to date a pool boy, you know?"

"Would you want to date a poker player?"

"I don't know, I'll have to see what it's like," she said with that same smile.

I could tell she was a little shy. I was asking these questions to see what she expected of tonight. It appeared she was treating this like a date, which was fine, but I knew I couldn't focus on her primarily tonight. I told her that I was going to be busy a good amount of the time playing, and she understood. I told her she could sit behind me and watch, that this wasn't a normal casino.

The last 10 miles is a quiet two lane road across the bridge and down to the harbor. I wanted to smoke a cigarette to relax a bit, so I pulled over at the last gas station and got out to smoke.

"You don't mind if I smoke, do you?" She asked with a little trepidation.

"Why would I care, what does it look like I am doing?"

"I don't mean cigarettes. It makes me less anxious and more focused."

Ah, getting high was her way of settling nerves. I told her I was totally cool with it. I recommended a better place down the road where we could go really quick, so I walked over to the car to open the door, and heard a big crash behind me and felt something hit me fairly hard in the back.

FanFiction to start in 3... 2.... 1...

...When I came to, what felt like hours later, but was probably only a few seconds, I could make out a shapely female. What was her name again? My mind struggled to grasp the familiar looking girl's name, and I found myself starting to go through the alphabet to get the first letter. Before I got to "K", I could make out a wooden thingy people put clothes on in closets. I heard her say, "I think you caught a hanger, Sarge" in a creepy voice. She looked ready to whack me again. "Why", I asked. "Why would you do this?"

She answered:

[Fan voting time:]

A: "that's whatcha get for check-raising my grandmother, a-hole".

B: "That's whatcha get for sleeping with my Aunt Sally, a-hole".

C: "That's whatcha get for bankrupting my Uncle Mike, a-hole".
