That sign means that cops are checking if you're within the legal speed limit. In Denmark cops have to alert you, before they check if you're driving too fast, haha. It's a great law, but kinda stupid.

I guess we have ****ty net speed too because it does tend to bog down on my old one.

Some either don't see the sign or they take the chance that there's no cop there. The cops startet putting up those signs, without actually being there themselves. They do it because most people lower the speed when they see the signs, and it will have an effect without a cop having to waste time.

Where I'm from we have automatic speed traps. No police officer needed

We have those too but there still needs to be at least 3 signs starting a few kms before the trap, that tells you where the trap is. We only have 100 of those around the country, and the police are not allowed to put up more. We have apps for your phone, and radio programs that tells you were the traps are, that gets updated by the police every day. The logic behind our laws is that the purpose of traps/cops, is not to make money on fines, but get people to lower their speed when driving. They strategically place these signs where accidents are most likely to happen due to high speed.
