So Stoked So Stoked

Never been this stoked before.

I'm a life long loser at poker, took a few years off. Some how I matured in those few years and I've reattacked with some new skills I acquired at work, ones that are helping me become a better player (recent results suggest breakeven or better, but too few hands to be sure)

This hand was a big moment for me.

$5 NL 6 handed zone poker at Bovada.

Dealt TT in SB

UTG+1 raises to 0.15
Hero 3bets to 0.30
UTG+1 calls

Flop:927 rainbow

I'm thinking KK+ he 4bets, even some QQ. Only hands that beat me are QQ, JJ, 99, and 77. 22 is probably not a raise from his position. Lot of Axs he may be willing to call on. I'll bet for value.

I took too much time thinking and stabbed in a 0.20 bet last minute

He raises to 0.90 in a 0.85 pot.

Now I'm scratching my head. Did I really run into 99 or 77? Possible.

I called.

9 falls on turn. I check, he shoves $5 into $2.75 pot. I almost snap fold.

Then I got to thinking. A9? No, he probably calls flop. He definitely doesn't shove turn. 99? Not going to fold on fear of quads. 77? Raise was too hard on flop, and so was shove on turn. JJ? Wouldn't he try to see showdown for value?

I got to thinking he had Ax and clean missed the board. Nothing that beat me made sense.

I called. He has K5s, 3 outs (Ks) and stacked off to me.

I admit I would not have put him on a weak K, but I think the call was right.

This was a great moment for me, because I've done a lot of work on opponent ranges, and I've done a lot of work of strength of opponents hands when making big moves post flop. I've had a hard time figuring out when the opponent is going hard if they are weak or strong.

Today was the first time it all came together. I ignored my gut, made the read, and was right. I know that won't always happen, but I'm enjoying the moment.

Better is relative. You have no idea just how bad I was.

The 9 was a great card. Meant he pretty much have 77 or nothing. You could be the next Phil Ivey Op
