Hey all, I have recently started playing live poker and thought that a good way to get a "feel" for the game and learn stuff would be to join The Nuts Poker League. The Nuts Poker League is a organised pub poker league consisting of mainly amateur and social poker players. When the season started I set myself a goal of finishing within the top 25% of my venue therefore securing me a play at the regional championship, after winning 5 out of 11 tournaments over a space of 3 months, I am the season champion for my local venue, I am extremely happy that I have surpassed my original goal and have won the league with 2 games to spare. I know most of you, will probably laugh and poke fun that I am effectively bragging about something small and insignificant, but to me it means that I have proved to myself that I am capable of playing poker and winning at poker, when at the start of the season I didn't "know" where my poker "skills" or lack of was at.

I ran a Nuts Poker League venue for a year while at Uni. Purely because they gave us loads of free stuff like decent quality chipsets, table tops, and a huge amount of free decks. In that respect, they're great.

The tournament set-up that they insisted we stick to was, however, gash. A donkament to end all donkaments. Shortstacks, fast blinds. It was also free to play in. We used to sit and play cash whilst running the tournament for people who fancied playing a free game. Used it to catch the odd new player for our money games.

Cool that you did alright in it though. Do you get to go through to a regional tourney?

@Broerstolyko: I am not to sure if you are being sarcastic or serious, I joined this forum because I heard it was suppose to be a good poker forum, I saw you could put up your bbv in this section so I thought as a basic introduction I thought I would share a brag albeit small that I am extremely happy with.

@Bladesman: Yes I have qualified for the regional tournament and have got a seat at a top 3 from each venue tournament too.

Lol thank you for the positive and negative feedback, I gathered that some of you players would down play and be disrespectful about my rather small brag.

@Mt.FishNoob: Say what you will about pub poker but not everyone has the "skills" or "pro ness" to go and bust out a rediclious amount on something they are unsure of what or where their "skills" are at . I also believe everyone has to start somewhere and I am happy that I found a place I can play on a regular basis, doesn't cost me the earth and is local.

I hope you know this can't be proven yet, 11 tournaments is not a sample size (words are failing me here) and the only thing you seem to have proven to yourself is that you like poker and that you aren't degen




I had a couple of lolworthy experiences at pub poker, one where I got the standard 5 limpers to my JJ in the big blind (I had 6BB left), about to announce raise but before I know it the flops half out because they never get raises from the BB, people check behind AK to be nice and ****

the organiser actually tried to shield the flop from my eyes "didja see it??"
"yes " "alright, deal it out again" (referring to the whole hand) "20 seconds of me arguing" "Nope, it's Full Tilt Rules!!!!"

I had that last line running through my head on the drive home. Full Tilt Rules. Genius.

Don't get me started lol, I play a pub league all the time (I don't take it seriously, but they sometimes go really degen and have a 5 pound cash game which is waiting to be raped lol) and its honestly the biggest bunch of **** wits and socially autistic ***** I have ever met in my short life. They're the type of people who say like "WHY DO YOU HAVE TO RAISE, CAN'T YOU JUST PLAY PROPERLY!!'' And the best of the old chesnuts is ''HAHA, YOU DONK HE RAISED WITH KING 7!!!!'' argh just makes me wanna kill myself.

Pub poker can be great in terms of socialisation and is probably universally awful in terms of poker.

But it's good that you enjoyed the game, had a small bit of success, and want to take the game a bit further, OP.

This, it's fun for social the level of play is absolutely diabolical, and I hate having to sit and listen to them trying to discuss strategy :\ and all this crap, one guy genuinely told me a/a v k/k is 50/50 cos a k has just as much chance as flopping as an a does, they're that ****ing stupid.
