BBV is definitely getting out of hand, and the crap:epic ratio is way too high.
From now on, if I gauge from the first 10-30 replies that people think the thread sucks and is worthless, that thread is finished. I'm just enforcing what everyone wants.
Old threads are immune. If they weren't, I'd have to lock 85%+ of all threads to ever exist. So this applies for recent threads and new threads.
I'm sure everyone would agree this is best. Except for the habitual crappy-thread starters.
Just make sure your OP delivers and it won't be a problem.
It sort of works out for you thread-starters too. This is because if your thread sucks, it implies you are being flamed. You don't want to be flamed right?
IRM pm me if you want to use a thread or something and I'll unlock it.
This thread kind of sucks (holy tl;dr) so I'm going to lock it now.

The first time your thread is locked, it might seem unfair.
But keep in mind you are a reader of BBV as much as you are a poster. So removing bad threads, in general, is a good thing.
And if everyone flames it, was it really worth contributing? If it wasn't worth contributing, is it really worth keeping it open?
And you might think, "I don't want flaming *******s having the power to influence whether my thread stays open or not."
If that's your concern, keep in mind that those "flaming *******s" are the same people who 4*/5* threads if they are epic.
So it's up to you to deliver.
And if you didn't deliver, you should be glad when your thread is locked, never to be flamed again.
Everyone, including you, is better off if your crappy thread is locked.
I included this "politically-correct" part because I anticipate having to explain my rationale more than once in the future - so it's better to get it over with now.

Don't bump very old crappy threads to try and get them locked:
- I can just delete that post and the thread will fall back to the bottom.
- People who keep bumping crappy threads will be dealt with. Permabans will be handed out if they are obviously just trying to fill the first page with old crappy threads.
