SuitedJustice and Natamus have Lunch: A Wall of Text TR experience

So I met up with SJ Saturday for lunch and a chat before a late afternoon 1/3 session at Wynn/Encore. He’s been struggling to put in hours and I’ve been timid to get back into playing live after a long time off. Long story short, I don’t want to comeback and be the blue fin tuna at the table. I figured if we went together it would make it a little less anxious for me and a change of scenery for SJ.

We started with lunch at Uno Mas at SLS a new taco joint. I was of course like 30 minutes late because it was 4/20 and I got super high so I was of course super behind on my chores. So I get there and we gossip about several of you, mostly the Mods though. The drinks were solid and the tacos were above average/pretty good.

With that out of the way it was time to get to brass tax, SJ was a little hesitant to play again after getting smacked around for a buy in at Bally’s pre-lunch, but after a couple drinks decided a walk and a couple hours playing at Wynn was good for ones health. Side note: bartender didn’t charge me for my $13 drink so I tipped him half the amount of the comp.

We walk down to Encore where the Wynn poker room is located (won’t be cool enough to do that comfortably much longer) and after a short wait on the list we were sat at the same table. SJ saddled up for the table max but I only came in for $200. There was a gap toothed baldy across the table with about 3.5k in front of him and he was at the end of a 36 hour straight session. It was part of a longer 5 day session he had put in wearing the same clothes. Despite a lack of teeth and sleep his game was solid including bluffing the guy to my right off a 150-200BB pot (can’t remember the real amount of the pot).

Guy to my right was solid, an Indian-American who built his 500 stack to 1200-1300 in about an hour before losing that pot to the baldy. To my right was a nice women I recognized, her and her husband are low limit grinders but both real solid spots. You don’t get involved with her without the goods. Next to her was SJ and I wanted to bully him with 3 bets several times because I knew that he knew I was going to be playing tight, but there wasn’t a right spot to 3B pre and be heads up with him :P Next to SJ was a Russian kid who was the fish of the table. Next to Russian was Hipster RedBeard who was probably a solid online player in college in the mid 00s. His whole thing just annoyed me including his solid play, although unorthodox range. Next to him was an older Asian lady who was super nice and twice as nitty, then the Baldy and then a chill black dude who was pretty fishy. Baldy had his number.

First hand I get is AK suited UTG I raise to 15 and I get the BB to my right to call. A-9-Q rainbow comes
The flop, check, check. Turn J BB leads for 30
And I come along, River is a 5 and he cuts out 75 (pot about 85) and I think about it for a moment before reluctantly folding. BB flashes me the corner of Ax9x off before mucking and scooping the pot. I felt relieved to not donk off over half my stack first hand.

I played a mostly straight forward 2 hours from there. Only sort of interesting spot was last orbit or 2 I get 10s10c and open to 12 from early position with about 105 left in my stack. getting 3 callers, Russian, Hipster RedBeard and Fishy but nice black dude. Flop comes 8-5-3 all spades. I bet 20, the other 3 call. Turn is Ad and I shove the rest of my stack about 85. Russian looks distraught but folds, the other two check their hands before folding as well. I take my biggest pot of the session and get back just above even. SJ gives the signal to wrap it up and after playing another couple small hands I cash out even for the session.

After that SJ and I walked up to Peppermill for a final recap drink. We had a little gossip session and he gave me some nice tips about my play which I appreciated because I felt rusty mentally even if my card and chip mechanics were mostly smooth. I was glad also SJ booked a small win. Sometimes that’s the best way minimizing loses and breaking up losing streaks: get up after a buy in and change casinos and try again.

All in all it was a good session and I’m looking forward to playing cash throughout the summer.
