I had one year where my sister moved in with me and my roommate and then when she got a place and my lease was up I went and lived with her for a couple of months, everyone just trying to get by one month at a time.
There’s plenty of great people who like I was saying last month, are just unlucky. If you’ve ever needed a business deal to close to keep your business open or a check to come by a certain day to pay your rent and it happened - this was the other side of the coin. Someone who didn’t get it in time. If you know someone who got themselves clean despite a divorce and trouble at work, there’s a dude at this place who lost his way.
I can’t hand cash to every person I see on Las Vegas Blvd asking for it, but we can do our best to try and help this organization help these people who want to get back on their feet ASAP and get out of this situation... my point is I’m totally unsurprised if we combined raised 200-300 hundred bucks to help out and honestly KF feel free to ask again in November before the holidays I’ll find something for your group
That’s awesome, Nat. Offers are also open for anyone who happens to be in the area this winter and wants to visit the program (I’ll be the driver 4-5x per week as well as the overnight chaperone.) For the most part, they are good peeps and I truly enjoy volunteering with the program.
I got a good perspective last year when I spent 9 months as a nomad. But I always had an out. At any point I could scream uncle and rejoin “normal” society. Pales in comparison to what many of these guys go through. Also great to see when they pull themselves out of the ****.
People are people.
And we’ve raised over $400 from contributions from this forum, with more potentially pending. (+1100 DFS winnings and potential $5k from Sammy, if he can figure out how a bank works.)

The program I work for runs during periods of extreme weather (and every day from November 1 - March 31). We pick up homeless people at specified locations and bring them to designated sanctuaries (church, temple, Rec Center, etc). They are given a place to sleep for the night, a hot meal, breakfast and a to-go lunch. Clothes/jackets/shoes/etc are provided whenever possible. Many of the folks in this program either can’t or won’t get into “standard” homeless shelter. And many simply prefer it.
