When the poker gods pay you back... When the poker gods pay you back...

Two interesting hands from a few days ago.

I'm at the Venetian $200 rebuy in level 4 or 5 with 12,800 in chips. When stacks are at 12,000 or less, the players can buy another 12,000 or $100 until the end of level 6 so I'm looking for some speculative hands to get the 800 in with to move up or get down to the rebuy level.

I'm UTG +1 with 9c2c. UTG calls 200, I flat and someone raises to 600. By the time it returns to me, the the bet has been raised to 600 and their are 5 callers to a flop of JJ8c.

Everyone checks the flop and turn is the Jc. UTG checks and I decide to put in 200 here for the sole purpose of getting down to the 12,000 necessary rebuy. Everybody folds except the UTG player who is aware of my rebuy status. He calls.

The turn is the Qc, we both check the river and my flush is good at showdown to take a pot of almost 4k.

The next hand I'm UTG with AKo and decide to open with a flat call. The villain in the hijack happens to have JJ and raises to 900. I call and we see a flop of J84r.

I check the flop and villain decides he wants to trap with his top set and checks it back. At this point, he is something like a 65:1 favorite to win the hand. If he could see my cards, he's playing it exactly right.

The turn brings the 10s and a second spade. With 2 overs and a gut shot to broadway, I decide to take a shot at the pot and lead with a bet of 2,000. My opponent is sitting with the 3rd nuts at this point and still looking to trap for all of my chips. He flats. Given my hand, 4th street is a good process for him.

The river brings the Qs and my longshot comeback has come in. There is a flush board, but I'm not hesitating and bet 5K. My opponent tanks for a while and ultimately calls.

I got my rebuy chips without having to cough up the $100 and wound up min-cashing for $560.

A couple months ago, I was on the losing end of an all-in with top set in the same runner-runner straight making fashion so good to know that the breaks sometimes go my way.

I bet my story is way more interesting:

So, I was dealt pocket 6's. A third 6 landed on the flop, along with a 2 and a Queen. A few bets are placed, and then one dude raises by going all-in. I call. There's another guy left in the hand who has his cards covered. I don't see him. I turn up my cards revealing my set of 6's. The guy on my left turns up his cards to reveal a set of 2's and lays them down. I double facepalm myself, realizing I just made a horrible blunder. The turn is the 2 of diamonds. This makes a flush for the guy still in the hand but gives me a full house, and thus I win the hand. My horrible blunder ironically ended up saving me a ton of money. The dude on my left obviously would have called had I not shown my cards, and he would have won with quads.

Interesting, right? What is your most memorable poker hand?

I didn’t care about your story the first, second or third time you posted it. 4th time was the charm though. NH.
