Long story short, at my local casino I had quad nines beat by a jack high straight flush thus hitting the bad beat jackpot of $218,000. My 50% cut was $109,000 - $31,000 (taxes) = $78,000. Not bad, considering it was my 8th hand of the evening.

So, what would you leave for a tip on this win?

I'm very sorry the government taxes their tips, that's [censored] up. That ain't my fault. It would seem to me that dealers are one of the many groups the government [censored] in the ass on a regular basis. Look, if you ask me to sign something that says the government shouldn't do that, I'll sign it, put it to a vote, I'll vote for it, but what I won't do is play ball. And as for this non-college [censored] I got two words for that: learn to [censored]' type, 'cause if you're expecting me to help out with the rent you're in for a big [censored]' surprise.

lol. Actually up to that point in the 8 hands I had played I had KK, AK, JJ and AQ before I had the 99. I hadn't won any of those hands either. I did make a comment to the dealer that I may not be able to tip him since I hadn't won a hand all night.

How much did you tip though?

If I am on vacation and this happens at a random place, then I tip a small percentage. However, as a dealer myself I am known thoughout most of the area cardrooms as a good tipper and I have to live up to that BECAUSE it all comes back to me because these dealers come play in my room and tip me. So if it's local I think I tip like $5,000... if I'm on vacation then something like $2,000

EDIT: I'm sure you left something like $1,000-$2,000 and you got a bunch of [censored] from people. [censored] them, how many people saying that to you can say they've handed somebody $2,000 as a GRATUITY in their entire lives? There comes a point where the percentage doesn't matter because you're actually just handing someone a ton of money for their normal work.

This is actually exactly along the line of thinking that I took when I tipped. This is my home card room in which I have gotten to know all the dealers and a good number of the regulars. I did end up tipping $5,000 and have taken some grief from friends thinking this was too much. Maybe it was, but whether I went home with $78,000 or $73,000 I was still having a good night and luckily I'm at a point in my life where I have no debt and no money worries so I could spread it around a little and not worry about it.

Oh and another thing I forgot to add to the above line of thinking... if it was a dealer I didn't like, I would follow them around from table to table with a rack of white chips (or small denomination they have... if they have 50 centers or 25 centers even better!)... and tip that dealer with about $100 worth of small denom chips and laugh at their misery of losing out on 5k by hitting the wrong guy. [censored] them
