First of all thanks to everyone on this site so far, every time I have been on here I have gotten so much help on every move I make. I just wanted to see how the people around you acted when you made your first big cash. I recently have been losing consistently at a local casino each week in a $40 buy in tourney. After placing 120/150ish, 36/156ish, and 20/150ish I took down the tourney in first this week for 1,387. I am not here to brag about this (at least not to much lol) but rather to talk about how people react to you winning.
There seems to be two types of people:
1) Do it again and I will respect you
2) No matter how many times you cash you are just lucky

Obviously the first type of person will be proven in time (hopefully I would like to think I didn't just get lucky all night) but how do you respond to the second type of person. I really would like to convince these types of people that its not just about luck...any suggestions?

When you win a bunch of money there are two types of people

1. People that want respect for their stupid donkament win
2. People that rub it on their titteighs

Obviously the first one has a cool story, bro

$1.4k for a win in a $6k, aint that a bit lame for a live game?

Anyway, no point looking for any respect in poker, once you've sifted out the losers, jealous and ignorant there really ain't many people left to give you the respect you probably deserve.

Self-respect is all you'll ever need, gl and hope you take it down again next week

yea it is a bit small but the payouts were to 18 and the structure was as follows:

NO-LIMIT TEXAS HOLD-EM “BUDGET POKER DAY”
• $30 + $5 Buy-In = $3,000 Tournament Chips
• $5 (1) Staff Bonus Buy = $1,000 Tournament Chips (registration time only)

So they get you with a $10 rake by letting you add on 1k more which I feel like is worth the extra $5. But yea I guess people are just going to be pissed off when I do well so whatever screw them thanks for the replies guys.

If I've got the dollars I couldn't care less what they say. Also, they already know it's not luck, they just don't want to admit it because they know they suck. So in this sense, you can never convince them.

Yeah.... I've played in that shove fest where people limp/fold AQs with 4 BB a couple times when I got bored. Congrats on taking it down, but honestly that tourney structure is pretty horrendous.... so yeah, you probably won't get much respect luckboxing your way through that donkament.

you only start with 4k, 15 min rounds, blinds go up too fast, old people and dealers at the table are too slow....... Like I said, I've played it a couple times when I'm in town (I live in NC but I'm from Buffalo). I remember playing at one table and counting literally a total of 26 hands dealt in 4 rounds.

I agree totally do you know of any other tournaments though in this area, I honestly don't know of anywhere else I could hit up around here and I like to see the donks faces in live games sometimes instead of grinding on FTP

nah.... Seneca Niagara is probably the best place on the NY side of the Falls. Fallsview is pretty nice though if you want to go up to Canada. As far as tournaments, Seneca's other ones are pretty decent. I just don't like that Thursday one too much. If they started using 2 decks (would probably never happen) or get auto shufflers you'd probably get twice as many hands and it would probably run better in my opinion. I mostly stick to the cash tables when I visit home though. SOOOOOOOO soft.....
