I've been watching some poker players and every time they have a mediocre hand, or even a good hand and want to talk themselves into calling against a potentially stronger hand, they always talk about how they have "blockers" against the stronger hands.
If you have AK, you never have to worry about AA or KK because you block both those hands!
A5 has a blocker against stronger aces so don't worry about being dominated!
KQ blocks lots of stronger hands too so play it like it's the nuts!
I've always thought the blocker thing is overplayed or misplayed. It helps a little before villain's action, but if one factor in your bet is you have blockers, okay. If they then jack it, their action of having it overrides the "blockers they don't have it" by about 100 to 1. Yet a lot of players are still talking about their blockers. This is dumb dumb.
Cool story I was playing some 3 flop 2 turn 1 river PLO the other night and long story short bet 3 streets with nut flush with possible boats and SFs and villain min raise river, I block every better hand that value raises river aside from 2 exact combos. I call villain have 1 combo straight flush and takes my money and dignity. F blockerz
