Since I started playing poker all I remember is losing session after session after session..It seems I'm one of the unluckiest poker players out there. I expect that variance will even out someday though so I can book my first winning session.
I will bump this thread when that day has arrived.
Had 6 session is a row playing 2/5 where i just got punished hard.
First it is usually a bit of variance then you start to play worst then you lose more cause your play is horrible before i knew it i was utg+1, utg raises to 15, i shove 500 with pocket 4's thinking that is the right play.
Now if i start to get pumped i stop playing for a while reevaluate my play and take it from there.
Usually you will see big leaks that you ignore while at the table that are so simple too fix you will laugh at yourself
16. That's live cash games, not including tournaments. 2/5 NLH and some 1/2 NLH. Couldn't do anything right.
It takes a combination of being out-classed at the table, constantly getting out-played, unlucky and playing on a form of tilt. It also includes your opponents playing more than absolutely perfect against you. Someone might limp-flat KK and just check-call all the way while you hold AA. If he knew your hand he would just open fold PF. But the sequence of street will tilt you out of your mind. Someone who knows how you play and your range of hands will still stack off there somehow.
Anyways that streak also included a streak of 21 losing tournaments, buy-ins $55 to $1100. The lower end of it was basically just to "blow some steam", and yet the players were so bad, I still had times with big stacks, only to punt it away on some obviously bad play.
One example of "playing to lose":
$1100 live tourney, blinds 200/400/25. Eff stacks 21,000.
Preflop pot: 825
CO raises to 1200, BTN calls. I squeeze it out of the BB with KJ to 3600. BTN calls.
Flop (8825, eff: 17,600): K-T-x
I c-bet 4000, BTN calls.
Turn (16825, eff: 13,600): Brick.
I check, BTN shoves. I go into the tank.
So I have already committed 1/3 of my stack and the pot is bigger than my remaining stack. The BTN is a good player and a seasonal pro. I'm thinking he might have K-10 or KQ. Both of which beat me. Maybe he flopped a set. I talk myself into folding. BTN shows AQ.
The worst part is I spent the next 2 hours or so partly regretting the fold, and partly thinking well he did have 7 outs, I probably would've lost, and the table was so much fun and social and that I am still sitting here, alive, instead of crying and jerking off in the hotel room. One more double up, or a couple of successful squeeze all in's and I'm back in it.
I don't remember what happened after that. I was pretty card dead and bled down to < 10K chips when the blinds were something like 500/1000/100. I have 4 orbits left in my stack. Folded TT at one point in time to a raise and a reraise. They both had AQ. 10 flopped.
A few hands later. Picked off some EP shorty shove with AJs. The BB wakes up with AK. Shorty had J8 or JT (I don't remember). Two of my suits came out, river was an ace. The BB scoops.
All this is an example of run-bad and bad-play at the same time. This was about 1.5 years ago. I have turned my life around since. Played only occasionally and put together a 9-1 run in the summer for about +$9100, including all of trip expenses, gas, food, hotel, coffee, car amortization, tolls, tickets, lost wages on unplanned days off, and anything Poker related.
Oh and the losing streak, that summed up to -$57,000 including sports betting.
