What I never get about the lending money thing, is where is the upside. The OP said he lent him 1k and got it back the next year. WTF? The best outcome is you get your money back with no interest and the probable outsome is you never get repaid.

I don't know if you have ever played live poker for a living, but after a couple years of it, it becomes like one big family where everyone spends at least 8 hours a day hanging out with each other, winning and losing together. Even at the 10/20 NL, it was not uncommon for people to ask for loans. I saw it happen all the time. You make well over 100k a year and to give someone 1k who you've become friends with over the course of a couple years is not an issue. I get that people can screw you, and it's -EV to not include interest, a payment plan, and a written contract. It's not +EV to do a lot of things poker, but sometimes we do it anyways.
