It's all a joke, apparently they want to identify the terrorists by being those who first lose their nerves in all the different lines and checkpoints. But I suppose it's a good job creation and self esteem program for some people.
Having said that, at least there are some controls. In e.g. Spain or Portugal I think you could carry an atomic bomb as hand luggage and nobody would notice.
