EVEN if your head is in the game, other players assume you arent and call VERY light with ANY piece, and it leads to more bad beats (cause normally they'd fold to you, but they just keep calling).
Second, the lower the stake, the more donk calls (duh, im the great reader and I know he has ace high so I'm shoving my 22...ooh, he has AA...YA I HIT THE 2).
THAT SAID, in my experience, the bad beats ALWAYS come in HUGE clumps. Recently, I decided to stick to the game, because I didnt want to leave the donkeys with chips. Over a 4 day period, I have experienced THE MOST bad beats I have ever experienced in 20 years of poker. Here they are, IN CONSECUTIVE ORDER (thats right, 20 bad beats in a row...not 20 hands in a row, but every time I was all in with a favourite, beat)...that exceeds my previous record of 11 bad beats on Poker stars by far.
So poker aint for me anymore:
These are all FULL buy ins, sometimes multiple if we both got deep, within a 12 hour playing session, 5 days in a row. This is not tiny buy ins...its not $5 micro stakes,
AA reraised, other guy jams J7...flops straight
All in with AK on ace flop vs AQ...river Q
All in with KK vs AK...river Ace
All in with KT vs JT (loose player) on T32 flop, turn jack.
All in with A4 on a 44xx board, 2 clubs, flush draw calls...binks (that one stung, triple deep stacks)
All in with AA vs KK, king
All in with QQ vs A8, ace.
All in with AQ vs J8, on AJx flop...jack turn
All in with AJ vs J8 on AJ8 flop, turn 8
All in with QQ vs 99, flop 9
All in with JJ vs AJ, turn ace.
Reraise KK, A5 calls, flop 522, bet, A5 shoves, call, turn 5.
All in with AQ vs 86 on AQ86 board, river 8
All in with AA vs AK, flush.
All in with A9 vs A7 on A97 board, runner runner flush
All in with AA vs KK, flush
All in with KK vs AK, QJT board
All in with QQ vs AQ, AA board
All in with AQ vs 54, on AQ3 board, turned straight (he had a flush draw tho)
All in with QJ vs AK on a 9TKx board, he had a flush draw, so he calls...binks
Before you go on and on about variance, or whatever, I have played poker solidly for years, and series of bad beats have only happened to a few other people I've spoken to. I'm not saying online is rigged, i'm just saying these sort of swings are IMPOSSIBLE to stomach, no matter how much philosophy you swallow. 20 buy ins is NOT variance, it is cursed for life.
All you young kids thinking of poker for a living, DONT DO IT, DO ANYTHING ELSE, the amount of time you put into it you can start a successful business that allows you to play PLEASURABLE WEEKEND poker with no fear. DONT TAKE UP POKER FOR A LIVING EVER, no matter what some degen says to you.
