Funny but he seems like a very cool person to me, doesn't seem gay (just soft spoken), and NOT a great poker player.

Now I have to be wrong on that last point since he has made the millions. However I just don't see how calling a re-raise with semi-connected suited cards can pay off in the long run when your not dealing with donks who will pay you off. I wish someone would explain that to me.

Forget about the guys personal life. He is making tons of money doing things that go against anything most players see as reasonable. How the **** is he doing it? That's all I want to know.

...he deals with enough donks that it does pay off, obv. also, he understands big bet poker on such an absurd level that it doesn't even make sense for you to question his playing style. You want someone to explain why his style is profitable, but for you (or me fwiw) to understand that explanation would necessarily mean that we have a great grasp of deep stacked HSNL games already. Just because you don't understand something doesn't mean that Dwan is the bad player. That is some serious illogic, man.

Yeah I know he has to be a great player because he couldn't have his results otherwise. So I do have to somewhat assume there is a some validity to the seemingly bad plays he has made on the televised poker. And I never said bad player. But he doesn't seem great either.

He had ample reason to actually call Hellmuth with his dueces. He almost did and that would have been an example of a great play. However the plays I have seen him make have been either fairly straighfoward or seemingly bad. Maybe he is only great with poker tracker?

I think you're focusing too much on certain plays; you should really be focusing on his entire gameplan and how his "bad plays" make money in the long run. Yes, if you were to raise K2 against Phil Helmuth (who many high stakes players feel is a weak cash game player compared with other players at the same stakes) over 200 big blinds deep effective stacks, and then call a 3-bet OOP iirc, you would have no clue what to do OR how it works itself in to an overall strategy.

and come on, if Phil Helmuth had the nut flush in that hand instead of pure air, would Dwan's fold have been a "great" play. What if Helmuth had the nut flush and Tom Dwan called? I hope you were leveling with that example from PAD.

There's not one way to play NLH successfully. If you think that tight aggressive is the only successful style, then you have a lot to learn about poker. Try reading the MSNL strat forum (HSNL has more rail bird gossip than strat).

Edit: the MSNL strat suggestions is just to open your eyes to how professional players think, not meant for you to actually learn about how to play. Tom Dwan is on the next next level of that, if you can comprehend that.
