Playing mtt tournaments. My last 5 bust outs (within one week)

1. Final table. Just under avg stack. AQ vs AJ, Jack on the flop, bust

2. From 160 runners to 18, AK shove pre, called by A10. 2 10s on the flop

3. AK shove on A high flop 3way pot. Called by 2nd pair, they make 2 pair on river Q9 (mid tourney, huge pot)

4. Final table AK vs KJ. J on the flop

5. We are small blind with AJ on the bubble, folds to us, shove. Called by AK on the BB

I don't tend to talk or complain ever about these busts, but it's come to th point where if someone has 3 outs against me I might as well standup and get ready to go. No joke, AQ vs AJ I told the guy he won pre flop.

I have been cashing, but some of these spots are crazy, 70% plus equity nearly everytime I'm all in and I'm busting out so often.

When I review these hands I'm making the right bet sizing, I'm getting exactly what I want in terms of value, and I'm busting out with th best hand over and over.

I need to increase my volume, play more tournaments but the grind is brutal and not paying off

I've often seen these people, these squares at the table, short stack and long odds against them. All their outs gone. One last card in the deck that can help them. I used to wonder how they could let themselves get into such bad shape, and how the hell they thought they could turn it around…

Listen, here's the thing. If you can't spot the sucker in your first half hour at the table, then you are the sucker. Guys around here will tell ya, you play for a living, it's like any other job. You don't gamble, you grind it out.

I agree, but I'm not having trouble picking the suckers. It's just been a couple of weeks of getting it in solid and getting sucked out by an awful hand in comparison. Some of these situations would have had me chip leader on the final table, but to get 3-outed so constantly in a short time it's just defeating. And by the 6th 7th time that I'm heads up all in with equity in my favor I'm literally already prepared to lose, and I do. I know this is nonsense babbling, but there's a point you ask how can I be so unlucky? I increase volume just to be 3outed even more. And then the energy I had for grinding mtts goes down since I'm counting on another suck out.

Either way, I'll keep studying the game and my hands and hopefully see some reward

if you have the worst hand going all in more often you'll get bad beat less often I tried this at the bellagio and it works.

You know what always cheers me up? Rolled up aces over kings. Check-raising stupid tourists and taking huge pots off of them. Playing all-night high-limit Hold'em at the Taj, where the sand turns to gold. Stacks and towers of checks I can't even see over.

Few players recall big pots they have won, strange as it seems, but every player can remember with remarkable accuracy the outstanding tough beats of his career.

This is a good point. When I look at my results I have had my fair share of luck. I think it's the fact I haven't had enough live experience and I'm in the wrong games. I played several tournos this weekend, binked one and cashed in 2 others so my confidence is nice and high, just need to play the right games from here. Thanks for the perspective

I'm also non-American and looking to travel the U.S to grind out some cash games and tournos as I'm exremely limited where I am (1 casino near me- Sit down fee + poor max buyin + higher than avg rake etc.) I'm excited to play around U.S, especially some of the charity rooms.

It hurts, doesn't it? Your hopes dashed, your dreams down the toilet. And your fate is sitting right beside you.

It's like the nature channel... you don't see Piranhas eating themselves, do you?

If you spot a man's tell, you don't say a word. It's immoral to let a sucker keep his money.

So you make 2 final tables in one week and you're complaining about running bad?

First prize at the World Series of Poker is a million bucks. Does it have my name on it?

I don't know. But, I'm gonna find out.

Because getting 2 or 3 outed on 2 final tables in one week was tilting. But it's more the badbeats in important spots rather than running bad overall

I have been on hiatus since the pandemic but plan on getting back to the tables soon. And my last experience was the same. If it makes you feel any better I have been 1-outered near the bubble so many times I've lost count and I almost exclusively make all my money on sets or 2 pair. Straights and flushes? What are those?

The last time I played cash was funny. Most people think of me as a nit even though I'm really not, I just don't pick up the right hands in the right situation. In this instance I played literally almost every hand. Why? Because the table was so tight they let me. I played it all at almost no cost; pocket pairs, suited and non-suited connectors and semi, even rags. In a 1-2 game. Scored an early pot with Kings in the hole and that was it. Basically blinded out. Never hit a hand and I had hours to play cheaply and do so. That's not how cash is supposed to work! I chased everything basically for free and it just never happened. The one time I flopped a straight my opponent just called me all the way down to make a backdoor flush despite having barely played a hand since I sat down. What can you do?

Just a serious response to show some sympathy and hopefully make you feel better. I have to win by either hitting a set or just make a big call at the right time because I'm the type of person who usually just doesn't hit outs. Hopefully you at least run a little better than that.

'I chased basically everything for free". "despite having barely played a hand since I sat down". You realize both can't be true.

How so? There's not really a correlation. One person barely playing has no effect on my playing multiple hands cheaply at a full table, in fact it contributed to the fact I was able to do so.

This is normal for every mtt player. Just play enough volume and work on your mental game (don't brake your keyboard everytime you get a bad beat) and you will eventually find a W

Its human nature to remember the hand, that busted us from the tournament but forget those, we won along the way to make it as far, as we did. Another point to consider is, that if you are always getting it in good, you are probably not getting it in enough, and this will cause you to slowly bleed chips over time.
