Today I was chip leader in a small stakes online MTT
And two times, for all of my opponents chips they called me with a gutshot draw when I had two pair one time and trips the other time.
But almost everyday I have weird stuff happen to me, and so now and then weird stuff like above.
If this is normal variance I don't know how people can stay sane playing online MTT's
I know somehow that I cannot be the unluckiest as I have good stats on pokerprolabs (Ace 4 stars). I do play small stakes so I just have three digit profit. But when I play poker I just always feel so damn unlucky.
I know this is a pretty unserious subforum on 2+2, but I don't know where else to post this. I somehow hope for some serious answers.
Is it normal in MTT's, even as winning player, to feel so unlucky most of the time?
I think with the gigantic variance of MTT's it must be that way.
Would a book like the Poker Mindset or The Mental game of Poker be helpful?
Op, it is entirely possible that you may suffer from "Oh Poor Me" syndrome, which is an actual real thing, as in a classifiable mental disorder, also known as Victim Portrayal syndrome or having a Victim Mentality.
This type of disorder impels a sufferer to perceive themselves as a victim even in ordinary circumstances, to put themselves into a victim role when interacting with others, and to consciously, unconsciously or subconsciously put themselves in situations wherein they may become victims.
On the other hand, you may just run really bad. Somebody out there runs worse than anyone else ever. It might be you.
My advice would be to give up poker entirely and open a bed and breakfast somewhere in New England. It's beautiful there in the Fall, when the leaves are turning.
So you run good in ONE tournament and are a 3 hour chip leader and blow it all in 2 hands and that makes you the unluckiest person in the world?
I'm not a regular player, but I've lost 5 straight all ins with AA pre flop (at 100max), have current non cash streak in tournaments thats well into double digits. When I was cashing in tournaments I'd have deep runs but always get 2 or 3 outed in the final 2 or 3 tables. Bubbled a buncha final tables this way in 2018 alone including a championship series tourney on Party poker.
I have no expectations when I actually do play, I just try to get it in good. I definitely feel unlucky but thats because i ALWAYS get it in good. The difference is I'm smart enough to know that you're not gonna win every hand youre ahead and you're not gonna lose every hand youre behind.
I have to mention I play small stakes.
Sometimes I feel so unlucky, because the stuff that happens to me, doesn't seem to happen to twitch streamers when I watch them play. But I think that is because they play against better players, so they rarely get these crazy calls, and in effect dont get extremely unlucky when opponent hits a crazy longshot.
When you play small stakes this does happen a lot, which actually in the long run is a good thing because most of the time you double up .

Cry me a ****ing river.
I mostly agree. I just wonder how you keep your sanity!
op, you wanna serious replies and you speak about few mtts late phase suckouts, sry broskie i doubt you are a winning mtt reg. 100bi’s swings are normal in mtts, now thats enough of being serious. Do you have any sister?
Your life run good and poker run good form an equilibrium. You may have ran really bad that day in poker but in life maybe you had good bowel movements, a good day with the wife and kids, or a promotion at work.
Make sure you take some time to meditate and count your blessings. Be glad you can sit there and gamble playing discs in a virtual word for money when there’s people out there fighting wars and ****.
