Do you play poker still? Blackjack was my demon for over 20 years but was able to quit like 8 months ago, it was not easy and is hard when in a casino.

Okay so I've finally managed to get back, took me a little longer than I'd have liked but a driver let me on his coach for free which was super nice of him. 30 minute walk later and I'm back. Some of the responses in this thread make me question human existence, some of you clearly have some social issues, so I guess I don't really know how to respond to your attempts. It's cool though.

But didnt pay them til like 1.5 years after the initial rent was due. Also I refused to pay all their bu****** late fees, lawyer fees, CCJ summons fees so it worked out ok. But you need to temp stop gambling and stop looking for money to gamble.

Relax. Do some exercise or eat some healthy food. Dont log on to 2+2, try not to dwell on your reckless gambling and if you can do some study as you dont want to mess up your grades as that is easy to do when your stressing 24/7 because your networth evaporated in 20mins.

Also get a job is a good idea. I worked at a bookmakers instead of dropping out one year. The irony aside, I did use that money to get through the jan-july of the 2nd year at uni but it didnt resolve my degen gambling and that ultimately screwed me up in my final year when I no longer worked at the bookies but I ran out of money and access to borrowing. Piled on the debt to over £15k and messed my grades up.

I dont play roulette anymore that was my demon, took me 6 years to overcome that addiction, counselling, therapy and just constant rockbottom after rockbottom. Its set me back 3-4 years in my life, but the future looks bright.

Hang in there and good luck dealing with your irresponsible behaviour- find the underlying cause of your actions and address that.
Massively appreciate this response, thank you.

I don't know of anyone in my area in the same predicament as me. I don't believe anyone in my uni has done this at all. I don't know where I'd be able to get work and when I'd be able to fit it around uni but that is my plan

People do all sorts of crazy chit that you don't know about.

I would just get a job and deal with it. Don't gamble and get your education. I did the same thing when I was in uni 20 years ago and the road of the degen is not a fun path.

first off, don't go anywhere near children.

second piece of advice i can give you is to keep gambling and live it up because usually by the time people turn 22 or 23 they "grow out of it" once they have gotten it out of their system as a youngin'.

This is what I thought. Posting in BBV is an invitation for abuse, that's what it's for. On a side note do people not use EAD anymore? Not once?

I think you need help, not with gambling so much but with judgement in general. Being serious here. Student Services would be a good start and give you someone to talk to who's not just going to take the piss.

Yeah, get counselling from your uni, self-exclude from local casinos/online sites, and get a job. Depending on whether you're in private sector accommodation or not, you might be able to get an extension on rent due dates (more likely if you're in uni accommodation obviously). If not, borrow money.

I was a teaching Assistant for 3 years before enrolling on this course, so I'd massively appreciate that you do not jump to ridiculous conclusions about myself as a person. Quite frankly I'm disgusted and furious that you feel that you can make such a bold statement.

Appreciate the second half of your post paul, and that's definitely what I plan on doing come tomorrow.

You must be a bad teacher because I haven't learned anything from listening to you complain...

Maybe you should rob hookers instead... If their pimp comes for you just stab them with a number 2 pencil (death by led poison obv)

First of all, a lot of people have been there. Hell before I turned 18 I never really gambled, then I blew all my money playing scratch offs. It was incredibly stupid. And I did feel like crap. It was a reckless thing to do. Also, I'd guess it happens to more people in the UK, where 18 is the age to gamble and there is readily available betting parlors and online gaming.

But that's fine - I learned a lesson from it and it only cost me 2 thousand dollars. I was broke as hell and had to come clean about what I had done, but that was the worst of it. I don't know what it's like in the UK (how hard it is to find a job) but in my experience people around our age who say that they don't know where they'd get work or how they'd be able to handle it with school are lazy people who don't want to work. Fortunately, you at least recognize that you have to do it. I don't actually know what your work ethic is like, but I would guess you need to work on it. I've never met someone with a good work ethic who did not believe they could easily get a job and find time for it. Spend some time doing that. DO NOT spend your time traveling to 25 dollar tournaments, with which you had to pay nearly 5 bucks in travel expense and (maybe) an entry fee.

And frankly, if the responses here make you "question human existence" you should grow a pair. Some of the responses were ridiculous jokes, but that's what BBV does. And frankly, you were moaning about losing a very small amount of money, and saying you didn't know what to do. Get a grip. Get a job. Stop gambling at least for a while and get your priorities straight.

Let's put it like this. The government was handing you money to go to school. You gambled it away. Should I, or anyone else, respect you? Frankly, I find it disguising that governments give away tax payer money to people because they want to go to college, and I find it even more disgusting when I see people wasting that money on **** they shouldn't be doing.

Go wait some tables, delivery guy, cashier, flip some burgers (fry some fish and chips,) etc. Frankly it should take no time to get that money back. But for god sake don't whine about the loss and tell other people you're questioning human existence because they're joking about you.

I guess I'm not accustomed to the standard banter thrown around BBV at all. I'll work on picking it up soon, sucks to be naive huh.

As of today I've applied for 10 jobs, and have been in contact with an agency that temporarily employs people, so gonna clock a few night shifts this week, starting Wednesday.

Nah scorpion only. non-negotiable. must be alive and fully grown. you need to be aware that if you do this, you will probably die. if you die during the bet then it is void.

Hey OP sounds like you have dug yourself a hole.

But in life terms it is a tiny blip as long as you learn from the mistakes that bought you here.

As a qualified primary teacher myself please let me give you some advice. By all means talk to your university but do not talk to lecturers or personal tutors or any other course staff. The primary education world is smaller than you think and you don't want to get a bad name.

This is good advice. I was a former teacher for 13 years and at my last job at an international school in Taiwan I was outed for playing in illegal underground games to basically the whole staff and my rep as a total degen did not go well.

This literally means you taught, stopped for 13 years, and then went back to teaching. I hope you taught math.
