I understand that his opponent could have a straight already - but he also had a straight already. You keep calling it open-ended - but he actually already had a J high straight. I know that it wasn't the nuts, and I'm not saying I would have even called the flop bet. I'm just pointing out that he wasn't on a straight draw, he had a straight with a redraw to the flush. If he knew your cards, it would be a terrible call. I'm pretty sure you are playing a game where he doesn't know your cards.
So here is the key question: Did you want him to call or to fold?
