for what its worth, i think the sick downswings i was having in early february did a lot more to [censored] up my concept of monetary value than any upswing ive had, like playing for a day and wondering why the [censored] i didnt just go out and buy a new car instead of playing poker

but you are right, i guess donking away 3 g's this morning was stupid, i would be much better off just buying something useful

either way, lets just treat it as an experiment or something
No it wasn't stupid, it was awesome. Don't let the haters bring you down.

newhizzle,

wow.

i know you're is this high right now. and you're making 50k a month or something or maybe even more, but this is [censored] stupid. back in the summer of 05 when everyone was doing ADHOCs and there was a small stakes 2+2 game going every hour, every single person here would drop money and LAG it up and have fun. but we played .5-1. or 25NL. we lost maybe 100 bucks total.

you don't see it now. but was losing 3000 really worth that one post. talk to me in 6 months.

oh and because i know you guys are gonna respond with me losing 20k at BJ, i'll say it here. sponger and i were [censored] with you. i lost 15k this month in poker, that's it.
100 dollars to you... 3000 dollars to him.... it is all relative. We stay within our comfort range. Yours is 100 bucks, his is 3000. It doesn't make you any better than him or vice versa. 100 dollars to you, is 3000 dollars to him.
You don't know his financial situation outside of rough guesstimates, lecturing him is probably a bit contumelious of you.

blake

I should've done the challenge instead of playing my normal limit. I would've lost a lot less money.

Newhizzle, you are king of BBV. Please forget my original statement and stake me - I never lose.

At least you could have given us a table name, so we can sit with you newhizzle and help out some 5/10 grinders.

No, you guys are really missing the whole picture. A better analogy would be to watch a wealthy businessman go to the center of town and light money on fire, while his yes-men cream their pants.
WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To watch a wealthy businessman go to the center of town and give money away to less wealthy people.

This is not even close to the same as playing blackjack with $20k or whatever. At BJ there's a .5% edge to overcome, making winning a very real possibility. In this challenge there is absolutely no way to turn a profit playing like that, so it really is just lighting money on fire.
I think the only difference is that you lose your $$ a little more slowly in blackjack. Afterall theres no way to turn a profit in BJ unless you can count.
If you're talking about someone that plans on playing BJ every day, then yes. However, we're talking about doing this one time thing in poker where you give away a bunch of money with almost no chance of winning. In blackjack, if you do the same thing, you have a very good chance of winning in the short run.

BY THE WAY, IT'S ONLY 13 BIG [censored] BLINDS FOR HIM!!!!!!!!

IF YOU WANNA TALK ETHICS TALK ABOUT THE INSANE 100/200 GAME WHERE PEOPLE BET THOUSANDS OF DOLLAR ON ACE HIGH.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!

ps. sorry for the screaming.

I'd feel better if it was a community of sick people that need help. Like doing this at the Make-A-Wish foundation poker site.

I didn't fold any hands preflop and I played every hand to the river...don't know why it shows up as that

Edit: probably checked to my BB 4 times
By your rules, you have to raise your option, and if it gets folded to you in BB, you auto-lose.

hmm i was thinking about doing this at .5/1 but i don't want to piss away a hunsky. i guess it's impossible to win a hand doing this stuff.

Ok I'm done. I started 2-tabling after a while because it got too slow. I feel like I ran really bad during these 101 hands, since the few good hands I got came in second anyway (two pair vs higher two pair, straight vs flush, TPTK vs rivered set, TPTK vs trips etc). Also, my opponents managed to fold plenty of times postflop when I had them beat with some pair, but not very often when I had 4-high.

Edit: The reason I'm not at 100 VPIP is that I sometimes got to see a free flop in the big blind, of course.

it's really sick what poker can do to our sense of monetary value. our hourly swings can be 10-15 times our hourly earn, so the money seems to be so much less valuable. compound that with someone who ran super hot for a while and the money almost has no significance. but there's a time when we will all run bad and it sucks to think back at that money you could've had.
Good post. It deserves to be repeated.

Wow, you ran good.
If by ran good you mean "didn't have a 9.08 aggression factor" then yea. I think you could make it into the green at .5/1 if you played ok post-flop (just calling down hands you have no chance of winning and raising hands like ace-high for value).

I was winning 15BB pots 2-way with Ace-high. People were calling me down with 9, 8, 7 high, etc. It was awesome.

I have some GREAT hands which I will post later tonight early tomorrow.

I played pretty well postflop, my aggro factor was only 1.3-1.4. I was running pretty bad though, and nobody at my table was willing to fold even ace-high.

I had a major surge in the middle and actually thought I was going to get even. It was interesting that when I started playing, about 6-7 people were seeing the flop, by the time it was over, I was playing with the same two guys and just couldn't catch cards or hold a lead as they pretty much went to every showdown with me.

I could have minimized my losses with less pre-flop raising and probably a little less aggro during the hand, but, oddly enough, the few times I slowed down and tried to trap, I missed a bet or two. Bluffs were flat out not working for obvious reasons.

Interesting idea, it was fun, if nothing else, to watch the table try to adapt once they knew I was seeing every showdown.

If I ever did this again, I'd tell the whole table up front what I was doing and see if that changed anything.

I am some nit, some of this stuff is just mind-blowing to me. I am a 20 year old sophmore in college. I have an earning potential that is around 200/hr so I am not so far removed from the concept of dealing with much more money than ever previously accustomed to. The idea of dropping out/taking some time off has crossed my mind as I sometimes fall asleep in econ or do whatever I may be doing at 12 on a Wednesday rather then be in class. The more I read about the kids who have chosen to drop out , the more comfortable I am with the decisions I am making in my own life. These tools can be learned without college, but the academic and social interaction seems to be more valuable then $x dollars. I just think it is easy to get caught up and short-sighted as a young kid, making a lot of money. Newhizzle displays some characteristics that make me think college might be worth more then he can fully understand at this point.
That's precisely what I think. Nh sir.

raise the turn.
Yeah, smooth calling on the flop to wait til the bets are doubled is fine, but you have to raise that turn for value.
