Parker Schnabel crushing it again this year. Only 700 ounces away from 6000, and he still has 4-5 weeks left. He made 620 oz. this week alone, so he has a good chance of going over 7000 depending on when the ground freezes. His record from last year was ~5000.

I don't get that thing with chasing for absolute season goals. Shouldn't your primary goal be to run the operation as profitable as possible? One time they sprayed a frozen cut with warm water to thaw it up just to make their "season goal" of whatever thousand ounces; wonder what that might have cost.

Any business should always trive to do better than previous years/accomplishments. We don't know what Parker has spent to reach/exceed his goals, but it's probably safe to say, that he's done better than Todd. Todd Hoffman on the other hand, was pretty much an idiot when it came to setting goals. He was like a blind hen trying to pick corn in a swimming pool. You are ofc right that your primary goal should be to make the operation profitable, but we only get to see a very small part of how they run things, and pretty much nothing about the financial part of it behind the scenes. We can only assume that the goal in target is enough to make a profit. Tony Beets must have spent millions on his operation.

Edit: When they (Rick Ness) sprayed hot water to thaw up the ground, they pumped water from their existing pond and heated it with a fuel powered generator. The water is not hot like when you turn on your faucet, it just has to be ~10 degrees above ground temperature. The water is the same they have already used to wash the dirt, so the cost of that is "only" fuel and the cheap sprinklers they used that were similar to what you use to water a garden. I don't really think that was too expensive.

Haha, yeah it was pretty ridiculous. Did you watch "Gold Rush - White Water"? It's Fred and Dustin Hurt, father and son (The Dakota Boys), they were in the first 3-4 seasons of Gold Rush, but has now gotten their own show where they try to dig/dive for gold in crazy rivers in the mountains. They do some grazy ****. They almost boiled one of their divers to death, because they turned up the hot water for his diving suit way too much. They are in season 2 now.

Is this as ghetto as Bering Sea? They dive as well and also put excavators on swimming platforms; dredging coastal sea ground.

No, it's a very small scale operation. They pretty much carry all their equipment around in the mountains/forest. No digging with excavators only small dredges the size of rubber boats kids bring to the beach. If you've watched Gold Rush from the start, you know the crew. Father and son newer agree on anything, but this time the son is the boss as opposed to before when he worked for his father.

Fred Hurt

Water

Carlos Minor (the guy that got boiled)

Another guy

Dustin Hurt

That's basically the story of the Pomrenkes in Bering Sea:

I've watched all the Bearing Sea gold episodes, they have their disagreements as well, haha. Did you watch "Aussie Gold"? There's only 1 season so far, it's on Netflix. They just walk around in the bush with metal detectors, but they do find some huge nuggets the size of a fist.*

Also, watch "The Umbrella Academy" and tell Sammy, that "number 4" (Klaus) is not a hilarious character. He's even German....

*well, a small fist that is, they are Australians afterall.

My granddad used to do it back in the 70s and 80s. I remember him bringing nuggets of gold back after a trip.

Unlike Denmark, we have valuable stuff in the ground in Australia.

I like to watch people mining for gold in the cold to chill me up in hot summer nights.

I haven't quite worked out why big fists are important.

Do Denmarkian women like big fists to make up for the Denmarkian men having small penises?
