This topic is an eye-opener in many ways. Props to OP!

I have two questions concerning the analyzing process of an opponent: How long do you analyze a single regular? And around how many hands do you want from him in your database before you can make conclusions concerning batting patterns, leaks and such?

Great advice OP thanks a lot.

You mentioned dealing with an upswing, could you elaborate on this? Do you try and stay humble? take shots?

Also, as I mention above, I believe hand reading to be a function of your mental / emotional state at the time more than anything else.

Ever noticed that some days you can put people on hands right and left, other days you´re just fumbling in the dark? They haven´t changed, you haven´t changed, your skills have not diminished. But you are probably not in that same emotional state you were in when playing the first game.

only read up to this, but this is A++++

Well done. Thank you for the awesome thread. Emotional control and thinking instead of asking others how to think seems to be the key.

I have always done better 4tabling without HUD than 12tabling with HUD. Still I am stupid enough to do the latter.

This thread is a great reminder that I will come back to once in a while to get my poker mindset back on track.

3/6 is my main game and I've beaten it for slightly better then wonderboy. I do like his advise on zoning in on the regs, but can't say i agree with no hud. If only for seeing preflop raise percentages his winrate would increase. It's invaluable when your facing a tough spot with JJ or QQ to a reraise from a guy whos out of position and has a preflop raise % of 1-2%. Might be likely to reshove with QQ when it's easy fold with your hud.

I am stunned by the fact that you beat 400-600 NL with a stellar winrate, over a large sample, with low variance - and haven't moved up to 1000 NL earlier.

How do you continue playing 400-600 NL with a 100K+ roll, when you are obviously crushing the game ??

I would have been taking shots at 1000NL with $ 50k with that winrate over 60k hands.

first of all, great thread op, i'm getting a lot out of it.

the reason why i'm writing this entry though is that a lot of people were asking for book recommendations etc that would help them get into the right state of mind. one quite well known title i can't recommend enough is "The Power Of Now" by Eckhart Tolle: http://www.amazon.com/Power-Now-Guid...1827790&sr=8-1

at first, the book may look like some kind of new age sh*t, but it really deals with a lot of problems that arise when playing poker (and life in general) and gives great advice on how to detach yourself from your emotions and learn that you really are capable of controlling the emotional layer of yourself.
for all the non-readers, there is also an audio-version of this, so no excuse for not giving it a try
