So I was on a private plane going to a bridge tournament with 5 teammates... 1 billionaire woman (our sponsor) and 4 friends. One of those friends had recently binked a big tourney score that we all had 5-10 % of. This was a long time ago and made us feel baller.
Since we had a ton of cash on us, we decided to start flipping coins for 5k the week before the bridge tournament (before urubu had made flipping an art). I ran good, and slowly the action was becoming more and more boring, so we upped our flips to 10k. Eventually, that became boring too.
Now, we couldn't really raise the stakes, so I realized we just had to up the amount of flips. I had a great idea, flip with cards instead of coins to make it much faster.
After the concept war, we agreed to each take 26 cards. We would peel them off and whoever had the highest card would win. If there was a war, the next card would determine the winner. Obv a war would be higher stakes.
We weren't really sure what stakes were appropriate, so we settled on 1k for normal ones, and 5k for wars.
Since this game was so fast, there was a lot of action even on the 1k ones. A normal deck would often swing 10k+. I was stuck a good amount after several decks, however, we still really weren't prepared for what happened.
We had a war, so we drew another card. It was another war! Our first double war. Now, we had an agreement that we would trade who flipped their card first. It was more fun to flip second so that you had the sweat. On the third card, I peeled off an ace. My friend, deflated, just insta turned his card expecting to lose, and he peeled an ace!
Next, he peeled off a 5. I slowly turn mine...a 5. What the ****? I had way the best of it twice in a row, but here we are with a quadruple war. What are the odds of this? To this day, every time I try to think of the odds of this happening it just seems completely astronomical.
It hit everyone in this moment that the next card was going to be a 50k card. 50k! Our billionaire client was loving it, it was like peanuts to her. Our least degen friend said "you can just make this a 10k war or something right now, come on guys."
That was reasonable, but I was already stuck about 25k in war. This was my chance to get even.
"Nah I'm stuck."
My friend nodded, as if he would have lost respect for me if I had said anything different.
I had to peel off my card first...a 4. ****! It was not to be, and I lost. That was the end of my war career, before I was even 21 and old enough to play casino war.
