after reading some of these stories i hesitate in posting my testimonials because i doubt they would hold a candle to some of these depressing life altering posts. I realized a very long time ago that if i chase losses i wont have a dime to my name and then reporting back to to the Monday morning 9-5 grind is even more depressing. In other words it sucks going back to making slow money when you are used to making fast money.

In my case i never made fast money or at least on a consecutive basis. I think my biggest score in one session was maybe 3k but im talking about gambling on an off since 1981 That really sucks doesnt it? I started with ponies then moved up to AC when it was relatively new hot spot in town . Everyone played BJ at Trump Plaza and Caesers in the early 80's to mid 90's . The old folks stuck with the more player friendly Claridge .

When the poker boom hit during the late 90's , the Taj took over.
The best part about gambling when youre a youngster is that most still live at home with their folks and have a roof over their head. I took that for granted not appreciating the little things in life. When you get older raise a family and you realize you are the breadwinner in the family , priorities change. If you still want to gamble you better play with a stop loss mindset or else things can suddenly get out of control.

When i play poker be it cash or tournaments i incorporate a stop loss program so i don't feel like total **** by the end of the day. Sure i feel like breaking down walls when i bust out . More pissed about the 90 min ride home . I dont do hotels because they are a waste of money in my opinion and will just lure me back in the casino later in the evening or early next morn. The other thing i deplore about driving home is the fact that i have to make my way past the smoke filled slot rooms before i get to the parking garage

. Although to some, 90 min is no sweat because some drive hrs because they reside in area where casinos are null and void. Some look forward to getting home so they can take out their frustrations on the wife and kids because lets face it misery loves company. Some have only the four walls to vent their misery and thats even worse. Some have enjoyed the company of huge family wife, kids cousins mom dad , inlaws aunts uncles only to watch most of them dwindle away like casino chips due to disease old age and eventually death.

. Having a foundation of such makes losing a hell of alot more bearable. Some families are suppportive some are not . Some might even go a step further by being unusually generous and write you a check to absorb your losses. Some of what i have written might apply to me some might not. Some might try and take comfort in knowing the grass is much less greener on their end than yours , while others could care less only dwelling on their personal losses and dilemmas . I might be rambling piling one topic over another but i am just trying to convey some of the thoughts that might go through a compulsive gamblers mind after a huge downswing . Ton of **** going through their head from the past that virtually makes no sense.
I admire guys like Phil Ivey who went on record as saying " I am numb to losing does not affect me one ioda and i have no respect for the value of a dollar or for that matter the value of money." However its very easy for him to say because he is one of the chosen 1% in the world that never has to worry about going broke EVER.

sarcasm never seems to amaze me on this site. Imagine someone looking for a shoulder to cry on on and of all places comes to this site? A Standard response from the insensitive morons that post here on a regular basis would be more like "Please cry me a river in the ocean or better yet jump in it "

Dude, I get that you're pouring your heart out and all but you are in the degen stories thread. We do appreciate you writing and do sympathize yet this is also the Internet...

Furthermore, you will be taken a lot more seriously when you can manage to put together clear thoughts and concise statements. Nowhere in you text wall do you illustrate clearly what it is you wish to convey other than gambling sucks, life sucks, put in a stop loss, don't go broke. None of this is new nor a revelation to anyone here.

That entire thing could have been written in one clear and concise paragraph instead of that text wall.

Commas, commas are pretty important, you should try using them so we don't think you are living in a freely sexual family commune populated with huge women.

If someone comes to the "Degen Stores" part of the "Brags, Beats & Variance" of a major ambling site looking for comfort and sympathy they are likely just as dumb as you sound right this moment with this post.

Good grief go tell someone who gives two craps about your soapboax preaching - like GA where your ass belonged in the 80s.

I'm all for a great degen story but this was a wall of text puke punctuated by a lame complaint.

as a comparison, a fellow employee (lets call him Mark) started at the company same time I did and we are the same age.

Mark was VERY thrifty and smart with his money/401k to the point of being a miser. Watched and managed his investments regularly, sought advice from professionals and kept up with trends. Drove used cars and even rode his bicycle to work often. Never gambled or drank/did drugs.

Paid off his house back in '98 and has been debt free since then.

Mark retired last year with a pension of ~$3k/month and $2 million in his 401k, then got a job as a consultant for about $4k per month.

Due to gambling, bad BR management, borrowing against my 401k and basically not giving a crap about managing investments I have $500k in my 401. Can't afford to retire.

So just by that one measurement I'm down about $1.5 million in life.

Let that be a lesson to you youngsters, this could be you. You wake up one day and think '...why wasn't I smarter with my money?...' as you greet the day from your rented single wide mobile home.

That's a very good point you're making. So we should save up so that when the time is there we have more money. More money means higher stakes and so you can lose that money way faster.

You have 500k in your 401 and you cant retire and 3k a month pension? You got kids , mortgage? If not my heart does not bleed for you You must live some extravagant lifestyle . My pension will be a 1k less than yours and 1/6 of your 401 and you dont hear me crying poverty like you. Some people just dont how good they have it

Normally i wouldn't give a second thought responding to some punk ass born during the Clinton Administration or infancy stages of social media but your response is much like your personality Lame , insensitive and disrespectful. Look forward to the day when you will be an old ass with a cane and receeding hairline lecturing kids of 2050 how great it was back in the day when you took pleasure in berating the old farts who grew up playing BJ in the 80's on that defunct blog they called two plus two. STFU and smile in the mirror once in awhile instead of being so negative. you might like what you see for the first time

LOL I love how people from the generation that refused to get their fiscal house in order and left us with 20 trillion in debt and unfunded liabilities that are larger than the economy (and are likely to hit 100 trillion by the 2030s apparently) like to lecture people for being born under the Clinton administration, an administration which THEY elected. Millennials is a curse word to them, because they're so ignorant they can't even see that this generation is somehow being productive DESPITE Baby Boomer's successful efforts to garnish their wages and funnel it into government programs that are destined to be completely broke before they get to use them.

Baby boomers who act like that are clueless, but hey, in the rare occasions I do play live, they're just as clueless on the poker tables as they are in life.
