and am in 30-40k in debt
i placed a big hero parlay last night on the dodgers, SF, blue jays, texas, novak and the mets
normally i would be mad that i hit 4 of them but since novak also lost im not that mad/tilted because im sure people out there lost millions on that one
nobody would expect murray to beat him
i have came to a few options to figure out my life
1. i can go all in on 3 hands of baccarat and i will pretty much be break even
2. i can file for bankruptcy and work a part time job while finishing school
(issue with this is my major leads to jobs involving money/finances and i heard a bankruptcy on your record makes it hard to get a career relevant to degree)
3. i can join the millitary and pay off my debt and save for rest of my deployment
and start a business or something idk(leaning towards joining the marines atm)
what do my fellow degens think?
The break is probably a good thing, cool off center your head and get things straightened out.
Options
1. High variance break or bust scenarios (the truest form of degening) are just that - HIGH RISK, if you need the BR$ to live on then I'm not sure this is the right play
2. Worst option. Bankruptcy basically labels you a **** up for at least the next 7 years (can have longer lasting effects as bad credit takes forever to re-establish and current economical situations are making credit harder)
3. As a US Army veteran with a tour in Iraq, I can honestly say that if you're looking to get away from degening in order to save up money, the military is not the place to do that. We would bet on everything from what time the base would do their next radio check while we were on the night shift to whether or not we would get attacked on a patrol, how many people would desert on the Iraqi Army units we were training, how long this dust storm were in right now will last, I bet you I can shoot that soda can from x distance with y gun, you get the picture. Paying off your debt? All depends on what kinda of bonus you can get when you join, In the US the big enlistment bonuses are a thing of the past and without extreme discipline, paying it off on a soldier's salary will take TIME.
Safe play = work your way through school, keep your roll up playing poker part time, avoid huge parlay bets (yes they pay great but why is that, they're long odds bets), if you can't lay off it all together, scale down your sizing.
Moderate play = instead of all-in 3 hands of baccarat, play a long haul session and try to run it up betting 200/hand instead of 10k. Better ye, center yourself, read up a bit and step up one level of stakes in poker, try 5/10 NL with 2k and play as well as you can, I've always favored the skill based gambling (poker, betting on bowling/darts/shooting (things I'm good at that other people aren't)
High Risk Play = put entire roll on Poker/BJ/Baccarat table ask the God of Variance for one favor, and blast away.
whatever happens, best of luck and let us know what/how you did.
