Behind on rent and a miracle happens then the usual degen kicks in circa 2009-2010

This story happened I think sometime around 2009 or 2010 it was a year or so after playnow.com launched.


Anyways, so i was really in degen mode hard around this time. I was working and wasn't in a huge mess of debt but I was losing money I couldn't afford to lose rent money etc pay check etc. I was about 2 months behind on rent and although my landlord was pretty slack, I knew it was eventually gonna catch up and he would come knocking. In the degen mind, enough just isn't enough, I remember taking some sort of last stand with around $800 and I was going for around 5000 or bust. Keep in mind my rent was less then $1000 so what I was really hoping for was to have such a big score I could get out of the hole with rent and also have a bankroll to gamble with. Looking back at it now, a total pipe dream!

I ended up losing it all and I knew I was now in deep ****. That was supposed to be rent money. So now I am about 3 months behind on rent. I can still remember the sick feeling I had when just after losing that money maybe not even a half hour, I got a text from my landlord inquiring why I haven't made a payment to him in awhile. The degen sweats start to flow, panic sets in but I was done flat broke until a couple weeks. I brushed him off saying I did and to check his email for the money transfer. This seemed to work as I didn't hear back that day but again I knew it wouldn't be long until I heard from him again.

At this point I literally had no funds available. I just hoped for the best and that he would forget until I got paid again and I would send him a nice chunk and life would be good again. I would be able to sleep again LOL. That day didn't come unfortunately as again a few days later he asked again. I ignored the message and pondered my next move. I didn't wanna sell anything even though I could've I just wanted to get real cash. I almost took out a loan at absurd interest rates like a payday loan but even worse as it's long term but didn't. I was still ignoring him and trying to forget about it when I was watching tv and logged into my playnow.com account - for those who aren't familiar wth the site it is a legal online gambling site run by the goverment in bc basically.

When I logged in I saw I had a casino free play token available. I guess from losing a lot of money on this site they were trying to once again lure me back in. With my real world problems still on my mind I was able to take that casino free play $100 token and go off into the degen dreamland. I fired up a slot machine it was like a gladiator themed one. Was fun Playing $5 a spin, before I knew it I was up around $300, I was like great! I can't pay the rent but at least I will have money for food etc. So I go to withdraw and unfortunately I find out that this free token has a wagering requirement of $3000 Ok, if I keep spinning $5 a couple hundred more times hopefully break even I'll be able to withdraw whatever I got left. Not too long after I hit a bonus round and hit it again soon after. I'm now upto around $900 and almost have wagered enough to withdraw. I keep going and low and behold another bonus round. I reach around the $1300 plateau and call it a day. I am ecstatic and decide to order pizza. I debate on what to do.

Pizza comes and I pay the delivery guy my last few dollars and I still haven't withdrawn the money nor self excluded. I was still on cloud nine and continued to play the slot machine, it was ice old this time and my balance got down to around $700. Part of me was thinking this is still a lot of money you made it out of nothing basically! Another part of me was wanting to gambling. I end up firing up the 3 hand Bj table and bet between 25-100. It is gone shortly after that. I then decided to self exclude myself lol. Ended up having 60 cents left and when you self exclude yourself any monies gets withdrawn. Got a nice big 60 cent deposit into my account next day instead of $1300.

Don't ever wanna give another dime to that site again and won't. You can't self exclude for life but I have no intentions of playing on it. PLO games are too sporadic and no bonuses or rakeback.

I debated on whether or not to dispute prior cc charges to it but my moral compass steered me the other way and I knew it wouldn't end up getting charge backed anyways.

Landlord and me ended up having a meeting. I was debating on whether I should tell him why I was behind but chose not to lol. Probably was the best idea. He didn't end up asking why I was behind. We came to an agreement with me paying abit more each month to work it off. I actually lived there for more then a few years. I do not live there anymore and it has nothing to do with gambling, I have my own place now.

Unfortunately my story didn't end with a big win. I did catch a real roulette heater running a $90 buyin into $1400. No lie I hit 9/10 miss one hit next missed one more and cashed out. Had $1860 after starting day with 760 and down to 450 when I came to the table. Perfect time to leave but instead I kept drinking and of course went to baccarat tables. Now these tables are different than most especially at little pocono downs casino there is only 1 baccarat table but most people play at least $100 per hand. The Asians seem to be able to bet $300+ a hand regularly I don't know how. I mean with 100k income really like 130 a year I can't bet 300 a hand regularly. They be making money off their nail salons and gamble it all I think. But yea I bet 300 first hand and lost. Then a streak of losses and all my roulette wins going fast. Had 1000 left bet 200 I got natural 9 and won😎. Time to roll only $500 up but that heater sure was fun!! I raced back to ny going 90-100 whole way and got to enjoy my win with a nice dinner with some fine wine! Life of a boss !

After a period of keeping away from degening on casino games and poker, I thought what is the harm of making a small deposit and enjoying the saturday with some casino action as the wife is away and I got bored.

I tell myself that 200 is a good amount and if I lose that, I stop. I deposit 200 onto a casino site and load up some Black Jack.

200 dollars, 19 against 10, dealer pulls a Picture
150 dollars, 19 again against 10, dealer pulls a Picture
150 dollars, 12 against 10, I pull an 8 for 20, dealer gets an Ace
150 dollars, 11 against dealer 7, double down and pull an Ace, dealer pulls a 8 followed by a 2.
50 dollars left and lose again.

All of the sudden I remember why this is a game I hate.

Ok, 800 dollars in the balance now. Let's call it a day as it was so close to -1000. Nah, lets do one more bet for 200 to get even. Success, ok now I have 1000 and bullet dodged. The hand moves by itself and rebets and I win. 200 up, why not bet that profit and then call it a day. Boom, Black Jack! 500 up now. Rebet 200 again, win! 1700, again with 200, Black Jack! Sweet! 1k up.

This might be my day after all, stop playing with 1k up and cash out and self exclude. Since I am up 1k after being so close to losing 1k it feels like a freeroll and I decide to open up some poker and take 1k to a 10/20 NL table on another site. Table instantly fills up with auto-script pros, I play for a bit and on the button I get JJ, I raise to 52,5 and SB reraises to 175. Normally a shove, but for some reason I just call. T high flop, SB bets out 175, I raise to 425, he shoves and I instacall. He shows AA, get a life line on the turn with a Diamond, but river no help. Bust!

Ok, now it is time to stop. But I could deposit that original 200 which I was fine to lose at the start of the day. Deposit made, go to the casino and manage to run it up to 1k on a good baccarat run. Revisit the poker tables again, get Kings again and lose to a flopped set of sixes. **** I hate poker and the nitty pros with all their software. Starting to steam again, and I reload 700 right away as I thought, well I was close to losing that anyways.

Time for Baccarat, I always bet on Player, I go hard and bet 300 and win, 1k on the account and break even for the day. I am still tilted and just press to 500 and Voila, the gambling gods grant me a run good streak. A few mins later I sit with 4500 dollars. Yes!! 3500 dollars in profit. I decide to withdraw 3500 dollars and keep 1k. Back to the poker table with that, 5 hands later and cannot win a race against AK. Well, still 2500 up for the day. I consider to self exclude to secure the withdrawal. However, it went so well with the baccarat, that I decide to cancel 500 of the 3,5k to have some more fun.

Quickly lost it. Reverse another 1k, lost that fast. Reverse another 1k, lose that fast also. OMG, I was 3,5k up today and now I am breakeven again. Feel so stupid, so I decide to punish myself with reversing the last 1k and Place it on Player. I pull a 8, Banker a Picture, I pull a Picture for natural 8, yes!! Comeback time, Banker draws a 9. FUUUUUCK!! Down 1k and I cannot deposit anymore as I reached a limit. Feel like absolute **** and about to close down the computer and cry a bit.

But wait, I have some comp Points to convert. I convert it all for 48 dollars. I bet it all on 0 on the Roulette, I already know it is no point. BOOM! 0 comes in. 1728 dollars on the account again. Life saver, so lets stop now. Nah, just a few more bets on 0. Does not come and I have 1488 on the account.

Phew! Dodged a bullet there. Lets bet 12 dollars to get to an even number. Lose, 24 dollars lose, 48 dollars lose, 96 dollars lose. OMG, this cannot be happening. 192 dollars and I am worried where this will end. I pull a 17 against dealers 10 and stand. Finally some luck as the dealer busts. 1500 on the account again and 500 up. After that roller coaster it is really time to call it a day, but I venture onto the baccarat again and lo and behold, there has been 6 banker in a row. I get this feeling that I will see my first Double Dragon with 6 player in a row. Decide to bet the 500 that I am up to see if this can be the right time and I wait and don't bet first to see if Player shows up. It does, so lets bet.

3000 balance, 500 player win (for some reason got scared)

5250 on the account now! I set my self a stop loss and promise myself that if I reach 4500 I stop no matter what. I rebet on TIE and Player Pair and lose and follow up with a 500 bet which I lose.

4500 cashed out and before I do something stupid, I call support and put a 2 week self exclusion. Head to the movies and watch Mad Max followed by some junk food and a good nights sleep.

That's probably the sickest thing I've ever read if it's true. It seems so far fetched to be real, but I did laugh pretty hard. If true, stay away from casinos man.

100% true my friend, this time the roller coaster was just so sick that I had to share it. I was playing on my ipad and I got shocked when the 0 came in, so I did not manage to take the screen shot. I do have a screen shot on the Double Dragon in baccarat on the iPad though. Something to look back at later on and remember.
