If the $25k was all/a very high percentage of his net worth, then yes, degen.

If not, then it's a high roller story rather than a degen story.

I'm not going to say anything about how much you tip, whether or not you tip, etc. That is all up to personal choices. However, I do take issue with you saying that dealers "Show no mercy wrecking the lives of countless men and women each and every day". WTF? You yourself have said that dealers are merely doing their jobs. They can't be held responsible for the percentage of players who come in and throw around money they can ill afford to lose. Those people are wrecking their own lives. Not the dealers. Let's put the responsibility on the shoulders of the people who are making those decisions, shall we? It's not the dealers who make someone lose their rent money.

The only known cure for degen is gambling.

In all seriousness, cold turkey, stable home environment, building and maintaining routines and treating any underlying issues that might lead to a gambling addiction (such as depression, grief, anxiety) with professional treatment are probably some steps required to cure degen.

This thread needs more degen stories though.

this story starts out with our hero driving drunk ass a skunk to his buddies house where he currently resides on the couch after a failed attempt to get laid from some buster bar bitch. As he nears his humble abode with his ego slightly out of tact, after a 4sure thing goes haywire from a tragic vomiting incident, his attention gets drawn away from his dry member to the flashing lights behind him. did our hero pay that speeding/seatbelt ticket from like 4 months ago??****..

after the nazi gestapo spiel it is determined that our hero was unfit to walk let, alone drive and is detained for DWI and a traffic warrant. after receiving solid legal advice from the top jail house lawyers (aka knuckle heads in the same boat as our hero telling him he's ****ed) things begin to look dim for the next few months due to prior history and the latest addition to an already fairly extensive record. after judgement it appeared the legal advice our hero received was sound, he was ****ed.

while enjoying a warm mini carton of milk (courtesy of your tax dollars) and a friendly card game inside the general population of our hero's county jail he requests a game change from what i believe to be spades to something with a bit more character, NLHE perhaps?

after some facilitating our hero had earned a few candy bars, ramen noodle packs and clothing items which he then parlayed into a solid bank roll. within a week the entirety of the general population was either involved or atleast spectating in the highest of county jail stakes NLHE. we're talking bags of dorritos, honey buns, sodas, even unworn socks. ship it. especialy unworn socks

as the stakes rose so did the tension, as is the nature of NLHE. counterfeit chips began to circulate causing distress and arguments when debts were to be payed. being that the certified chips were just ripped up pieces of construction paper and not many other resources were available, facilitating these games became more and more difficult.

after a heated discussion about whether or not everyone should just switch back to playing spades a resolution arose. It being that an inmate with a distinct name and handwriting would initial each certified chip. Q M (Quentin M-something) was labeled in such a sloppy left handed cursive that not even the most skilled of deceivers could defy the integrity of this game now!!

after successfully facilitating a high stakes (and these stakes were high, you think some1 is tilted after lossing there pay check you should see them after loosing there only clean socks in a dirty ass jail) NLHE game our hero was free to go and ready to light the world on FIRE, or at least his savings at the local casino

well heres how i spent my day today. I am the king of taking small deposits and turning them into a BR only to lose it all either in a big game or casino games if im on the right site. Today i checked my CC and i had $35 left on it. So of course i went to put gas in my car for the week, ahhhh no i didnt, I went right to my PC and opened up the Bovada client. I deposited $33 as of course they take a small % when you deposit (which really adds up over the year) With my new $33 BR i know i have to play carefully. I sit down at the $30+1.50 HU sitngo and get this idiot that starts to berate me after every hand i win. Any time i hit a pair or draw he tells me i suck like hes never lost a hand before. About an hour and half later im up to about $198 and getting a little bored. I sit at a $100 HU sitngo but no takers however there s a player sitting at a $72 one. I call a 3bet in position with q8s and flop top 2, he had KK there and i won the match (who plays KK anyway these days lol) With 3/4 of a full buyin i sit at the cash $2-4 table. About 40 mins in im sitting with about $360 and this hand happens. I raise UTG+3 to $10 with 55 and get 2 callers. Flop is 755, hmm not bad. I lead for about 1/3rd pot and get one caller. Turn is another 7 and i shove $330 into a $53 pot and get snap called by A7. Now chances are with small bets and raises we would of got it in but you never know. Now i have $730 and its time to watch this weeks episode of The Strain on TV. After that I will likely find a $5-10 cash game to play, after all im easily rolled for that game now.
