If just have 800$ to your name, need to pay rent, food (the works) and you need 800$ more to buy something, going to the casino feeling like "I'm gonna' double this" and you end up losing, that is f*cking degen.

I think we need to refocus a bit:

I mean jesus. I get paid monthly and make a decent salary and most of the degen stories i've posted in this thread are +$1,000, and I feel ****ty after. But I remember times my freshman year of college shoving all-in when I rivered a flush in omaha only to lose to a boat and losing the entire $100 bucks I had saved by working hourly for like 4 days over spring break...I just don't post those because I have more recent and painful losses - but the story is still exactly the same in essence...

Bottom line is degens gonna degens, and all should feel free to come share. No offense meant to anyone here, but keep in mind that losing money is not a d*ck measuring contest. It's a bad thing, something we all feel shameful about, and something many of us can't control. This thread is not supposed to be "oh this guy lost more than me and therefore I'm somehow less of a degen", and if that is what this thread is to anyone...you should think about the implications of that line of thinking long and hard.

And due to my long and mostly pointless thread derailment...I'll post a few more degen stories in about 45 minutes.

And let me try and counter some anticipated follow-up comments:

1) not a degen story / you suck at PLO...first time playing, and given more detail it was degen i promise.

2) "oh this guy lost more than me and therefore I'm somehow less of a degen" - noone thinks that way...Ok there are many similar lines of thinking that are equally dangerous that I shall list below:

1. See this guy lost xxx too, therefore it's ok that I lost mine.
2. See this guy lost xxx, and he clawed back therefore it's ok for me to takes these risks
3. This guy gambles for penny's while I'm here losing G-stacks...what a pussy.

The point of swapping experiences is what is called a "free lesson", an opportunity to apply the lessons of others to your own experiences (hopefully for the good) not to use others experiences as a measuring stick against your own activities...I mean that line of thinking just doesn't make logical sense.

Well in Canada most people I know are paid every two weeks. Yes im whining about losing 7 pay checks which would take over 3 months to make back, doesn't matter if $800 is all you have it's still not that degen to lose

Not trying to brag about good job doesn't matter anyone could easier get work in my industry but most peoPle can't work 8 100 hr weeks in a row. I'll admit losing $500 might be degen and big for some but it's just not interesting to read

IMO the people who don't have alot of money to lose but still gamble are way more degen than someone that works ft and donks off a couple grand at a casino. Of course the level of degeneracy is not determined by the amount of $$$ lost.

For instance, the story about the school bus driver who rerouted his bus route just to put $0.25 in a slot machine is a classic degen story, yet the guy didn't even gamble a penny of his own money (he found the quarter on the floor of the bus).

I just think that the stories involving small losses tend to be boring, as most of them are:

"I was grinding $5NL, had a 4 buy in downswing, went on tilt, took a shot at $25NL and lost my whole roll!!! "

I think this is one of the best threads on the site and a good 75% of the posts are great, it's just disappointing when the thread is bumped and you expect a juicy degen story but turns out to be some low stakes shot taking kid who lost $108

I think what ppl r trying to tell u is that if some kid only has even $400 for something important (lets say he needs to say his bills + buy food soon) but still proceeds to gambles ALL of it n lose, hes a bigger degen than u will ever be thus making him qualified to post his degeneratly stupid story

If you gamble away your food and rent money that is degen but it's just the odd one about losing a $50 deposit which is kinda weak, no offense to anyone really

The amount of money that is degened is irrelevant, what matters is the importance of said money to the life of the degener.

Anybody who has gambled heavily for a long period of time probably has dozens of these stories. I know I have quite a few and some of mine are funny, some are shocking and some are just sad. I don't understand why so many people think it's "cool" to be a broke, desperate degenerate whose life is falling apart.
