I am in the process of a degen quest. All my OLP accounts were busted a few days ago except for $10 on lock. I was waiting for a $500 deposit to clear on minted so I played some 4plo and bj on lock and ran my roll up to $100. Then I started playing some 25 hu nl and won $100 more and quit for the day. The next day I made another 130 playing 10nl and 50nl hu. Today I took a ridiculous shot at 500 PLO with a min buy and ran it up to 500. Right now I have $761.61 in my lock account and the goal is to turn it to 100k profit by 9.19.2012 (one year from finding $10 in the account). Who knows, might even use some brm at some point

Just registered to tell a real degen story..

I once moved to another country with like no monies at all and stuff. This is another crazy story but it's not important ITT.

I was really struggling to keep my head above water and I finally got a job.
It was a brand new restaurant who was recruiting his whole staff.
So everybody was new and we were starting to get to know our knew colleagues.
There was one guy who seemed to have a lot in common with me.
He was also far away from home, didn't knew to many people over there also struggling financially and so on..
We started hanging out and of course it became clear that he was also a poker player.

So we started our little home games with 5€ buy in.
there was also a third player but he always quit after losing his first buy in.
I won the first couple of normal games and then things were starting to degenerate!

In the meantime I got fired and was back being broke.
But the guy kept calling me to play and we kept playing.
He had only one problem: I was owning his soul!!! It was like Hellmuth vs Dwan.
And the games became more expensive, after losing his first buy in, he bought in again and again, usually untill he was down like 7 buy ins and I really wanted to go to sleep.. In the meantime the other player had left a long time ago because he knew we would go on playing for hours..
Wich was pretty sick because both guys shared an appartement at the other side of the city wich was like a 1,5 hour walking.
So they ended up both walking separately for 1,5h to their appartement. Every time.
But the guy really did n't care , he just wanted to play!! I had to kick him out every time !

The guy kept working in the restaurant and when he got his pay check, he immediately came over and payed me his debt wich allowed me to pay my rent, food and cigs,..

Now we are three months later and he did'nt won a single Eurocent of me..
But he still wanted to play me, it became like a goal to him to beat me..
One day he even changed our holdem game into an Omaha game but without any succes.

Then one day he told me his great plan, since he had a job with unlimited contract he wanted to get a 25.000€ loan from his bank to buy a car, get a decent appartement and a poker bank roll.
Normally it's almost impossible to get that amount of a loan without your parents backing up so his bank refuses but he finds another bank and manages to get 16.000€.

In the first weekend he spents already 3000€ on clothes and partying but oh well..
Then he buys a 6500€ car, a really nice one..

Because he now had enough money to play in the casino game , our home games dried out. I did'nt see him that often but I knew he was losing big time altough we never really discussed it.

Then one night we were together the three of us in my appartement and we started a 5€ game..
He ran hotter than Elky that night and I was down maybe around 65€.
For the first time. I was been down to maybe three buy ins before but never more.
The third player lost his firts buy in en was picked up by a friend who wanted to drop off both guys at their appartement. Of course he refused and offered me a final rebuy, wich I accepted of course.
The other guy does his best to get him in the car but it was hopeless.
He said to him:"Quit now you're ahead, you know he always beats you, you were just lucky!"
So after a 15min discussion they leave without him and before they close the door I hear him whisper: "Tonight is the night, I' m gonna bury him and take it all back, he 's on tilt!"
I tought:"Okay, let see about that"

He has 75€ in front of him (his original buy in 5€, the other guy's 5€ and my 65€)
I bought in again for 100€.
I took the 75, and have now 175€ in front of me.
He buys in for 100€.
Loses it again , I have 275€.
He buys in again for 300€
Loses it again, I have now 575€
He buys in again for 500€.
Loses again, I have now 1075€

Before every buy in I waited for 5 min , asking if he was sure he really wants to do it before accepting it because I knew he was a degen and he was kinda my friend!

Now he wanted to buy in for 700€ a last time. I accepted after half an hour of begging. And we agreed a payment within two weeks.

The game ended at 11 am in the morning and he was down 1600€ in a 5€ buy in game in wich he was up for 70€ if he just had listened to his friend and took the ride home.
I tell him immediately that I'm willing to wait a month instead of two weeks because it's a lot of money and he also reveals me the truth about losing his loan on poker and blackjack and being broke.

So I leave him alone for a month not wanting to put pressure on him. And I also didn't hear from him wich I tought was normal after that sickening night.
After a month and a half I contact him and we get together a few times.
he tells me he that he's totally broke and can't pay me. I can understand but I am also broke so I tried to find a solution.
I tell him to sell his car wich he could'nt afford at the time, buy a smaller one and pays his debt.
He says he can't sell the car because he did'nt had money for the paperwork (300€)
So I offer him to loan him the money because I really wanted a solution.
I give him 300€ , he sells his car and then he pays me back the 300 + 1600.
He refuses. he didn't want to owe me even more and blablabla..
I had another offer: we would play for the car.
He refuses and I said okay, then trie to find another solution this week.

Two days later he calls me and says he wants to play for the car but on his rules.
If he lost, he did'nt owe me anything anymore and I could buy his car for 2000€ (he bought it for 6500€ three months earlier)
If he won, he didn't owe me anything and I had to pay him 500€. (so he could go play blackjack of course)
I tought about it and I finally agreed. I knew that on one side it was the only way to get my money en and on the other side i had such a huge edge that the risk was minimal.
But I decided the structure: 1500bb deep! lol
No variance! I was even in the state of mind of folding AA in a preflop all in. If you know what I mean..

From that day, he calls me twice a day, asking me if i already got the money so we can play. I ended up getting 1500€ and we agreed i could pay the 500 later if i won..

We played for over 18h non stop. And I took the chiplead from the beginning but he played better as ever before. Disciplined , no stupid huge bluffs... And he crawls back and even got the chiplead. Then their comes a big hand where it started to get messy on the turn on a board with 4 diamonds.
I 5-bet him all in and he folds top two, but neither of us had a diamond , I had only "ace for high ".
This bluff and the fact that he had to go to work in two hours puts him a bit on tilt.
And I took his last chips with 55-JT on a 5 2 T board.
We sign the papers for the car and I give him the 1500 wich he lost the very next night in the casino!

Now I am driving him to his job in his car and he asks me to not drop him off on the parking lot for obvious reasons!


The 500 I owed him , I won back in three poker sessions.
He never payed back the loan, never got an appartement.
In the meantime he tried a self-invented blackjack strategy wich never worked.
After the "car game" he still wanted to play me and lost every single time and kept paying for my bills.
One day he started winning and winning and winning, untill I was down maybe 500€ .
We caught him cheating, and I still ended up beating him!
We played a couple more times but he could'nt deal anymore.

For the people who think that I could be a douche, i need to say that I never was even tough i can understand it looks like that unless you were there.
I always refused to play but he kept harrassing me and begging.
It became clear that he really is a douche and a scammer who deserves nothing else than what he got!

All the time we played with an old deck of cards that you got as a gift with 5 packs of instant soup....

Blinds were 0.10/0.20 and when there were a lot of chips on the table, we moved them up to 0.25/0.50.

But during the night the whole table dynamic changed.. Big overbets, preflop raising to 20x bb and stuff.. Blinds did'nt matter anymore...

That sucks - well at least you have rakeback and bonuses to help balance it out

Those who know me will testify to the fact that I used to play $20 buyin cash games supertight and go beserk when I lost a buyin, even it it was a flip like AK v QQ or something.

Anyway.

Just recently I've started a new job and had a bit of disposable income. I also recently found out the wonders of live casinos / table games.

One night in January I managed to have a couple of drinks (too many) and get myself stuck £400 at roulette. Not a lot I hear you say. No. But it is when you have £600 on your bank account and no job, and no train ticket home. Anyway. I suck it up, withdraw the last £200 - speculate to accumulate and that.

Walk over to the nearest roulette table:

£100 on black.
£50 on 3rd 12
£50 on black+odd combo.



Collect my winnings like I'm a pro and ball it off upstairs to my fellow degenerate who was £971 up. I told him it's considered bad etiquette to cash in the £71 and told him to put it on red and my birthday number: 27.

It comes in 27 and he's up almost £2k, and I'm now £200 up after a bit more roulette.

Day saved.

Last 2 weeks:

Find myself at the Vic in London with the same degenerate friend. Might be a link here? Anyway, was up £250 from roulette at the Empire and headed over to the vic to see what it was like.

Dump the £250 on roulette in about 10 minutes. Withdraw £500 from cashier and £200 from ATM (£200 for roulette, £500 for pokers).

Dump next £200 in super quick fashion and borrow £200 off degenerate friend.

Dump that in 5 minutes.

Walk upstairs, buyin for £500 at 1/2 at same table as friend. 3 hands in, straddled pot, CO raises, i flat BTN with 86. Friend 3bs from CO to £70ish. CO tanks for a while, then mucks.

I snap shove all in, FTW. And get a quicker call. I gulped.

TTJKA runs out, he says you win, and flips AK like I had a legit hand.

I muck and go for a cigarette.

Another £200 withdrawl from ATM later, and I'm about ready to die inside.

Get home, go to sleep at 10am and forget about it all.

£20 in (max deposit I cud afford). Obviously spin it up playing 50HU PLO in 2 days to £1,150, win highest ranking players leaderboard prize, get $400 for that.

Go to sleep.

Here's one of mine...

Had a monster chip lead, 4 handed, in the $550 deepstack at the borgata winter open in 09. 1st was just over 100k. Made a bad play and came in 4th for 28k. Hating life, i headed down to the window to angrily collect my bricks of cash. Headed for the pai gow table to blow off some steam. Played for about an hour, actually felt worse, lost about 1k. Headed toward the elevator, passing the roulette tables. Decided i'd just put 1k on red and get even. BLACK. Put 2k on red, BLACK. put 5k on red, BLACK. about 7 minutes later, i had lost 21k of the 28k I had just collected from the window. Somehow managed to keep the last 7k, so I supposed i'm not such a degen after all!

Winter 2003,

Not working much, dodging my landlord and stealing my girlfriends change for gas money back to providence. I Somehow came up with $200 and decided to drive to Foxwoods. Why not! Got down there at 8pm and play $10 hand BJ, Fast Forward 8 hours and I hit a A23 STRAIGHT FLUSH for $18,000 playing 3card. After taxes I walk with 12k

FF 2 Weeks,
Lost $2500 on scratch tickets
Rented a $5000 week Sailboat in the winter
Drove back to Foxwoods in Feb 2003 during a blizzard took me 5 hours(norm 1hour drive)

My friend comea down and watches me lose 5K playing BJ
I go into the bathroom puke and sleep in the stall for 14 hours.
