Not me, but a friend I introduced to online poker. He started at 3/6 minbet, built a roll to 1k and went to 5/10. He ran it up to like 11k and then moved up to 25/50. He lost it all as fast as anyone can lose that much at minbet poker. He ended up sleeping on my couch for like eight days because he couldn't afford gas to get back home because the day he lost his roll I convinced him to go to an Indian casino with me with his last 50 bucks and play 2-10 spread (he lost it in 2 hands).

Now he moved to Minneapolis and thinks he's a professional poker player because he can't afford rent on his ****ty minimum wage job and takes ridiculously underrolled shots to try to pay for it.

dont listen to people telling you to quit.

You'll turn it around.

I probably had 60 deposits before I cashed out the first time.

this is a pretty degen story.

so i decide to head to morongo with a friend. first night, i end up losing around 1.5k, hit the sack, no big deal ill make it back tomorrow with my remaining 1.5k. i buy in for 500, double up, get stacked. buy in again, double up, and get stacked once again. so out of the 3k i brought, i have about 500 left.

i buy in, and work it up to about 2k. and then this hand happens (which i have posted on 2p2 about a month ago).

Effective stax 1800, 5-5 blinds
villian raises to 60, i flat with AK (whoopsie), and spewy asian kid flats.
Flop (180) KK7r. Villain leads with 100, i call expecting spewy asian kid to do something spewy, but he folds.
Turn (380) J. Villian bets 800 (wtf), i ask wtf do you have and after about a minute of tanking shove for my remaining 1600. Villian calls with JJ.

final pot was around 3600 and was the biggest pot i have ever been invovled in.

i have around 300 left and decide to head to the high stakes black jack room with the intention of making every ****ing dollar back that i lost.

With the minimum bet being 100, i ended getting my stack to around 1200. Sure, 1200 would have been good enough to leave with right? Nope, i was still 1800 away from break even. So i started making multiple 100s bets, doubling down on 2 of them, busting that and winning on the other. This continues and then i randomly see a kid i met on a cruise about 5 years before (yea really random that he noticed me, i must have looked like the biggest degen, or possibly a crazy baller making these bets). We start small talk, i get distracted and end up losing everything.

Ya, pretty degenerate weekend if you ask me

It doesn't matter what I'm doing, whether it's learning to snowboard or play football - I play to win and do everything in my power to get an edge.

The major problem I'm having right now is that my passion and determination to play and improve as a poker player is no longer compatible with my relationship with my wife; this is because I have failed to be upfront with her on multiple occasions (agreeing verbally to a set deposit limit online and then depositing more money, playing after being told to stop, etc.). She was hurt emotionally by my actions so much to the degree that now even the thought of me playing will bring her to tears.

With that being said, I still have the urges/want to play. Over the past week I was thinking through how I could rectify the problem by setting up a contract with her where my deposits would be limited to a set amount each month - $50.00. I was also hoping that we could negotiate time spent on the internet; this would work out fine for me since I mostly play cash games and am +ev in those games, and I already have a full time job. Unfortunately, when I brought up this idea to her she was calm but firm in saying she was unwilling to negotiate on this issue. She also made it very clear to me that I basically had to choose between her and playing poker, which for me is devastating because they are both things I cherish.

The situation is more complicated for the following reasons:

1) we've been married for almost 2 years now.
2) we have our own condo
3) she's pregnant and is expecting in 6 months. The last thing I want is to not be there for my child.
4) I do love her and do know where she's coming from, since I did lie to her on repeated occasions.

I am torn as to what to do. I know that if I choose to quit poker that I will have the urges to continue playing. If I choose this option, what steps can I take to ensure I follow through with no longer playing?

If I do choose to play poker and give up this relationship, what's the best way to go forward?

Thanks in advance
