Hello Friends,

Recently I have been studying poker to the point of becoming a much better player. I thought I would explain my strategy to help anybody out there that has been rising in the stakes and would like to become a better player as well. Follow this guide, and you cannot lose.

Poker is all about deception
  • It's about pretending your hand is better than it is
  • It's about syncing out the player to your advantage
  • You have to know when to bluff and how far to push it

Leave emotion at the door
  • You gotta play the hand you're dealt
  • Dont get involved in people’s bull****, that just gets in the way

Poker is not for the wussy player. Sometimes you gotta go all in
  • Place your bet
  • Then commit to your hand

You've got to know when to hold 'em
  • Know when to fold 'em
  • Know when to walk away
  • know when to run

You never count your money
  • when you're sittin' at the table
  • There'll be time enough for countin' when the dealin's done

Ev'ry gambler knows that the secret to survivin'
Is knowin' what to throw away and knowing what to keep
  • 'Cause ev'ry hand's a winner and ev'ry hand's a loser,
  • And the best that you can hope for is to die in your sleep

What does that mean "Poker is not for the wussy player"? What if a player self-identifies as wussy? Who are you to judge?

Hello Friend,

While I agree, we should not pretend to be somebody who you are not, I feel a situation of a game is a little different. We need to pretend a hand is better than it actually is, or else you will be constantly folding. For example, lets say you have a pair of tens, this will not beat a pair of Aces. However if you pretend it's a pair of Queens, this will allow you to continue in the hand and beat pairs that is less than Ten.

Hello Friend,

Perhaps my choice of words were wrong and problematic in this case. Perhaps I should have used the phrase "faint of heart". Either way, What I mean is you have to be prepared to go to the felt with your hands and push all of your chips in the middle. If you cannot do that, perhaps you should play baccarat, or some other game, instead.

Hello Friend,

I apologize for my discriminatory comments. I would assume the comments in question were the comments from Morphismus and FranFran. If so, I hope my explanation for both of these clears things up.

Hello Colin_Piddle,

I apologize. I did not mean to imply that we are friends. I hope that some day we can be friends, but until then, I will accept the role of an acquaintance.

Hi I've played poker for a couple years now, and have seen a number of cool things take place. I'll tell you about the most memorable hand I've played in.

So, I was dealt pocket 6's. A third 6 landed on the flop, along with a 2 and a Queen. A few bets are placed, and then one dude raises by going all-in. I call. There's another guy left in the hand who has his cards covered. I don't see him. I turn up my cards revealing my set of 6's. The guy on my left turns up his cards to reveal a set of 2's and lays them down. I double facepalm myself, realizing I just made a horrible blunder. The turn is the 2 of diamonds. This makes a flush for the guy still in the hand but gives me a full house, and thus I win the hand. My horrible blunder ironically (a. the expression of one's meaning by using language that normally signifies the opposite, typically for humorous or emphatic effect, b. a state of affairs or an event that seems deliberately contrary to what one expects and is often amusing as a result, c. a literary technique, originally used in Greek tragedy, by which the full significance of a character's words or actions are clear to the audience or reader although unknown to the character.) ended up saving me a ton of money. The dude on my left obviously would have called had I not shown my cards, and he would have won with quads.

Interesting, right? What is your most memorable poker hand?

Yes, I would like more Ober threads. But Ober is so polite, like I would usually be. This is less entertaining, but it is hard for us polite posters to generate memes.
