What on earth are you talking?
When 3 people have already limped, a hand like 49 suited stands in relatively good shape against most peoples ranges. It can make a flush and two different pairs (which are likely to be good if they hit as people don't limp many 9's or 4's). I'm probably against 3 small pocket pairs, most likely 22, 33 and 55. I don't include 44 because I have a blocker. Infact I would go so far as to say I'm against 22, 33 and 55 95% of the time in this scenario. With that in mind I have both a very good chance of hitting the best hand, and a very good chance of bluffing if over cards hit. I was just unlucky in this scenario that someone hit a set with their small PP. Otherwise I get a fold on the turn or river.
Also, as poker has got increasingly difficult, it's become increasingly important to have a deceptive range. Reg's are trading hands like AA, AK, KK, QQ etc for hands like 49, 47, 410, and 82** because when they connect, people don't include them in their range. This is all about implied odds. The more deceptive the range, the greater the implied odds.
When you've bothered to learn things like this, come back to me.
**the reason I include small a big cards in a deceptive range is because as well as having pair and flush draw potential, they also have two possible straight draws - broadways + wheels
