Obviously would have had to have gone runner runner to hit....
Action in the room seemed to be centered around the bbjp, which always cracks me up

bro are you serious how can a legit brag be 3betting and then flopping 2nd set and folding to a overbet shove when its clear your miles ahead of villains overbet shoving range. OP is clearly results oriented, tbh i don't believe this even happened wouldn't think somebody could play this so bad.

You had a gut feeling...you went with it...and YOU WERE RIGHT

Sure the +EV over a thousand hands is to snap call but in this particular instance you just saved yourself a buy-in.

We have all seen this type of nit "old guy", they never shove without the nuts, I saw a guy last week fold a royal flush draw after the flop to a set of queens face up when the bbjp was $350k...everyone at the table nearly punched him in the face
i wonder what Ivey durrrr etc etc would have done I'm sure their gut would have told them to fold 2nd set on a rainbow board when its clear a +EV call gut instinct or not. But then again OP might just be the best.

here's the real mistake OP made... if you're calling his 4bet preflop to set mine and you can't stack off when he jams any flop of AJx rainbow, KJx rainbow, QJx rainbow, QJT suits irrelevant, etc, then how in the world is calling off 10% of your stack to flat his 4bet ever a good play?

J 6 A rainbow

Villain tables AA faceup and asks why didn't you call?

Anyone else ever been put in this situation?
Luckily I was familiar with villain, and he was an older gentleman who played pretty straight forward. All he needed to do was check the flop and I would've fired $100 or so at him.
why even call pre if you are putting him on a nut range u dont have odds to setmine. just fold or ship pre or do something that isnt as bad as what you did, actually flop fold is probably the worst, you sir are awful.

If villain is the type OP is describing, I would have folded pre. I don't want to even give the nits another $25 when I know I'm beat, and I might not get paid off. I am not levelling. Some of these villain types like this in live poker are so easy to play against. This is one of them. I have played against old guy nits who never have AK or QQ there. Only KK+. Anyone in this thread who has not played 1/2NL live can not understand how transparent these villains are. There is a Bart Hansen deuce plays podcast that talks about how deep you have to be to fold a set on the flop. It's more theoretical and not a black and white hero-fold ninja read like in OP, but it is interesting.

His 4 bet condensed his range to AA, KK, or AKs.
His shove on the flop condensed his range to AA (remember the flop was rainbow...)
Also, I was familiar with the Villain. There was no way in hell he would shove with KK with an A on board in a 4 bet pot.

So no, calling is not majorly +EV if his range is AA. I'd be drawing to one out, but I'm sure you figured that out by now.
So if its an obvious fold why are you bragging about it on BBV.

[ ] good fold
[x] hero call 25bb to flop set and folds mid set on dry board

And that's fine; Folding the Jacks preflop if you are sure you are beat....BUT if you are calling then WTF are you hoping for? Basically you are calling and will only play with top set on flop? Ridiculous.....

Folding the Jacks preflop is 100% fine....But if you are going to play them and hit a spot like that, you have no choice but to put your money in plain and simple! This isn't high limits for crying out loud....It's not even deep stacked at 1/2...Both players had less than a single buy in!!!!!

LOL @ everyone saying you can never fold a set - he had a solid read and adjusted to it, which is the key to winning poker. You USUALLY don't fold a set, but if you have a read, you adjust to your opponents. Only a Sith deals in absolutes IMO
