My house cost 729K (can't really afford it, obv), is 1500 square feet, was built in 1948, and smells like rodent pee somewhere under the stairs, though I cannot find out from whence the smell comes.

BTW, it's true that Nevada was hit signifigantly harder than most US real estate markets, but prices like the one paid by OP are not uncommon at all. In fact in much of the country you can get a comparable house for less than 250K.
