Anyone ITT saying that Al won't be there when his kid is born is just stupid. If his friend/manager was cool enough to set him up for this bet, I'm sure he will let Al rearrange his days off to coordinate with the birth. I have 3 kids and have never had a problem with a boss not letting me take a couple days off for their birth.
The thing that makes this kinda risky for Al is that the friend is just a store manager, not district and not franchise owner. So it seems kinda risky on the friends part to guarantee this to work out. Especially in the middle of a recession where people are getting laid off left and right. I am guessing that there is enough incentive (read: %) that the friend feels that he can cover this with any of his supervisors, or the franchise owner.

I hope it works out for you Al. You have always been a cool poster so you deserve a break imo.

i know screen writers and musicians and producers and have some pretty good connects in that arena so it isn't out of the question to get it made into a movie.

Your going to be famous when you complete this. Ppl will love you for doing it, as well as hate you for doing it. I really don't see you qutting if you really care about your unborn child. You will definately meet some characters on the way... Find the sucker of the group, and prop bet him, that he can't Drink an entire gallon of milk in an hour. Do it out back though.

My biggest concern is that you won't be able to work the the amount of hours agreed upon. With current economy, most work places are cutting back / doing away with, overtime posibilities. I'll bet you could have gotten the same odds, with 40 hr/ week terms. That's were I believe snake's edge comes into play.

Then comes lack of time/ finances/ motivation to grind. The games will be infanately tougher in 1 year, and missing an entire year will be disastorous for you imo.

Looks like the bet has already started, so there isn't anything that can hold you back now.

P.S. 100k is not worth missing your childs berth.

Best of luck

Sure, there are 100 other angles that could be taken in this bet, but obv. Al & snakekilla have a history, so trust probably played a big part in the terms.

Also, Al, if your manager is as cool as you say, when you get sick of the McD food, try trading food with other fast food restaurants. I worked at McDs when I was in HS (20 years ago = lol old) and we used to call Domino's and Pizza Hut etc. and trade orders. They would make us a bunch of pizzas for the shift that was working, and we would make them a bunch of McD food. Then they would deliver and trade.

It's possible the owner of the franchise or McDonalds management will find out about this and quash it, especially if it gets any kind of publicity. It could be perceived as "working at McDonalds is so terrible and demeaning that it takes a 6-fig prop bet for someone semi-busto to do it," and there's the whole workplace anmiosity thing. Do you think you can really keep everyone else at McDonalds in the dark?

Anyways GL, I hope everything goes smoothly.

That's what I have been wondering the whole time. Once fellow workers, etc. find out about the bet they are def not going to be to happy with it. I assume no one will know hopefully.

heh that is some crazy story lol.

If I could afford to give 102k away for a bit of fun though I'd definitely have done this differently. While I realize that making crazy bets is fun and make some great stories and experiences I don't see the point in making it last a full year.

A more interesting way to make this bet in my eyes would be to make him work perhaps only 6 months at Mac for $50k (or 4 month of charity where part of the $50k covers the salary).

Then at the same time stake him for $200 NL. Make some rules that he is not allowed to cash out and that if he break this rule the whole bet is forfeited and stake + profit is also forfeited. This is to ensure he doesn't skip work and just cash out when he needs to pay bills.

To spice things up you could agree that the stake runs one week at a time and he has to video himself doing something embarrassing in public each week before he is allowed to be staked again the following week.

Positive changes:
- Friend only has to "suffer" 6 months compared to 12 months.
- Your amusement of the bet probably has also worn off dramatically after 6 months and the story about a crazy prob bet isn't gonna be less interesting due to being shorter.
- Profit from playing poker could be split so that perhaps 50% had to be used on a weekend trip or some crazy nights in town etc.
- More fun during the prob bet due to weekly fun.
- Friend could be back on track after 6 months continuing as a pro (if that's what he wants)

-----

Anyway this is just how I personally would have done it I think. Don't get me wrong this bet sounds pretty crazy but like after a few months the fun kinda goes off or is it just me thinking that?

And if he is a good friend of mine I'd enjoy being able to help him out while still having a lot of fun with the prob bet.

Although it is a very good bet, which i would also accept pretty quickly at 200:1 :-)
